Great informative video. Want to order the J2S version.I heard somewhere that there's a newer, slightly more spacious version of the J2S that can fit the sparkos lab ss2590s much easier in comparison to the first versions, is that true? Or can the J2s be altered to make the dual opamps fit more comfortably?
@RachelGeshelli
7 күн бұрын
@@phrocasso5906 thank you! The J3 is the bigger form factor which can fit the 2590’s in both the XLR’s and RCA’s comfortably! It also has independent switches for the inputs as well which the J2S does not offer. In order to order the 2590’s you do have to email in, as they do not come in the unit due to the heaviness, but I do have a video on how to swap the op amps and take the unit apart and put back together. Hope this helps!

@@RachelGeshelli you're welcome. The J3 does look nice, with the additions and space it may suit my wants but I just need a J2s. Is there a way to get the box from the J3 pro or Archel or special order the J2s with the J3 pro or other housing? Is it better to order the sparkos opamp from you guys? Thank you for the quick response and valuable information.
@RachelGeshelli
7 күн бұрын
@@phrocasso5906 you’re welcome!! And the J3 is taller to match the bigger form factor of the A3 and E3. The design of the board makes the 2590’s fit as they are wider than any of the other op amps, So the sockets are more spread out on the board. You can upgrade the case to the bigger form factor for the J2 as well if you wanted! Just write it in the comments when purchasing or email in!
@phrocasso5906
7 күн бұрын
@@RachelGeshelli You clarify things straight to the point. It makes sense with the J3 pro as the board is more spacious along with it's housing. Sorry, one last final question, would the 2590 fit the J2s with the bigger form factor?
@RachelGeshelli
7 күн бұрын
@@phrocasso5906 I try to hahaha I’m glad it’s all making sense! And so the bigger case doesn’t really have anything to do with the 2590 more to do with the independent switches! The regular j2 size case will fit the 2590 in height. You could fit it on the RCA but not the XLR’s.

I had a chance to meet Geno and Sherri, and their entire family/staff. They graciously gave me a factory tour and answered all of my audio questions. In their listening room, I auditioned their flagship Dayzee DAC, with stock op amps, connected to their own amps played through AE520 speakers. The high res audio tracks were astonishingly surreal. There simply were details in this music that I’d never heard before, and I’ve auditioned 500k systems. The mid and low bass was powerful and impactful, with the upper register being clear, detailed yet non fatiguing. After hearing the Dayzee, I couldn’t audition the J3 pro. The experience was so incredible, that I couldn’t get anything less than the best! Sherri mentioned that if your budget allows it, go for the Dayzee with stock op amps vs the J3 Pro with Sparkos, since the price difference is nominal. If you want to take it to the next level, you can upgrade to Sparkos op amps later. Very friendly team of people, extremely knowledgeable and quite accommodating. Kudos to Geno’s amp and DAC designs! FYI, the purple heart wood case is absolutely beautiful! Very cool experience. Thanks so much!

op amp rolling has gotta be a top 3 silliest audiophile move. deeply unserious practice.
@athathsonty2925
9 күн бұрын
Why ?
@nolondon
2 күн бұрын
@@athathsonty2925 for starters in the example of this pcb coming with a standard DIP8 opamp, it includes a footprint for a discrete opamp, which is beyond pointless for hifi purposes. the technical draw backs of a discrete op amp is that parts have to be selected by hand. for a good discrete opamp, these requirements are fairly strict. in a best case scenario a manufacturer will buy a LOT of parts and use the ones that measure correctly. rarely does this happen though, so you get a smattering of parts that have tolerances of any where from +/- 1 to 20%. the other issue is that discrete opamps are more prone to thermal drift due to the transistors used in them. opamps are etched on to a silicone wafer and as such can be precisely trimmed to a tolerance that is in the fractions of a single percent range. There are benefits to using discrete opamps, none of them apply to home audio though, and most of them are related to the ability to drive complex loads over long distances in a studio environment. swapping DIP8 op amps for different DIP8 op amps is even dumber. Every circuit is designed for use with a specific op amp, meaning the values of the supporting components around it were chosen by the engineer to extract as much performance as possible out of said opamp. any op amp made since the 80's generally has a ruler flat frequency response, with astonishingly low THD, and exceptionally low noise(assuming the engineer is designing the circuit correctly). swapping op amps will at best leave you with a sound that is identical to the previous op amp. at worst, it will perform slightly worse(higher noise, excessive loading, ect). there is zero to be gained beyond a first hand understanding of the placebo effect.

I would give up the 1-coaxial and 1-TOSLNK inputs in the front for a I2S input in the back. I suspect 90+% of JNOG buyers over these years actually use these 4th & 5th input. Now that Gino is positioning this DAC midfi buyers the lacK of I2S is becoming a glaring oversight and deal breaker for me.
