Maori tribes were'nt made up‼️ they arrived as tribes and knew exactly where they were to land their waka on Aotearoa. What was made up was the Treaty which is today both a Negative and a Postive for either side🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾

obvioulsy that's a minor detail that wasn't included in this brief video. the islands were given different names by maori - some of these were used by cook in his maps when he arrived. the first european name for the country was staten landt, given by tasman in 1842. this was later changed by a dutch map maker to niuew zeeland, then anglicised by cook to new zealand when he arrived in 1769. in the last 100 years the name aotearoa has become the most popular maori name for the country. today's it's officially new zealand and commonly also called aotearoa.

The first Europeans discovering New Zealand and Australia were the Portuguese, the Dutch used maps based on Portuguese charts. Also many archeological finds support that.

@@eeeaten "SYDNEY (Reuters) - A 16th century maritime map in a Los Angeles library vault proves that Portuguese adventurers, not British or Dutch, were the first Europeans to discover Australia, says a new book which details the secret discovery of Australia. The book "Beyond Capricorn" says the map, which accurately marks geographical sites along Australia's east coast in Portuguese, proves that Portuguese seafarer Christopher de Mendonca lead a fleet of four ships into Botany Bay in 1522 " "Beyond Capricorn: How Portuguese adventurers secretly discovered and mapped Australia and New Zealand 250 years before Captain Cook is a 2007 book by journalist Peter Trickett on the theory of Portuguese discovery of Australia. Although its thesis is similar to that advanced by Kenneth McIntyre in 1977,[1] Lawrence Fitzgerald in 1984[2] and others, the publisher and some news reports[3] presented it as being a new theory on the discovery of Australia."

@@eeeaten There are plenty of evidence of it being true, otherwise how do you explain the discovery of all those 16th-century Portuguese maritime artefacts on the coasts of Australia and New Zealand, cannonball and helmet, The Mahogany Ship, all the cannons , buildings, coins, etc.. Including the oral history from the aboriginals. There are even accounts that tell British destroying evidence in fear of a possible Portuguese claim of Australia, by the king of Portugal. So... what is you argument to believe otherwise? Have you done any research into this? I guess not..

Lots of coloniser propaganda in this video 1.in 2014 The NZ Govt stated that in signing TeTiriti o Waitangi the Chiefs did not cede sovereignty. 2. In 1834The Northern Cheifs signed HeWhakaputanga declaration of independence with King George of England and King William his son. This video ignores that document. 3, The NZ Settler govt came into existence in 1852 and it has no authority to administer The 1840 Treaty of Waitangi as it didn't sign it. 4. International law says the Treaty version of the indigenous people is the version that takes presidency in law..also the English version is not signed. The Maori version is signed so the Maori version is the lawful version. The settler Govt use the unsigned English version.

As someone from NZ who’s lived in aus most of my life, I find nationalism between the 2 countries fascinating for their differences. I know I’m not alone in this, but it’s easier to feel proud of a NZ identity, whereas Australian pride / nationalism is riddled with cringe. Partly from racist connotations, atrocities without proper reconciliation, comparisons with UK and US (where many English speaking cultural icons and media are imported from) and other things. It can be a weird thing to navigate.

New Zealanders live in a world of denial, and suppression of their horrific history. Australia's history isn't particularly entwined with NZ's, even though you mention us at every opportunity.and think we owe you. If Kiwis are so nationallistic and proud of your identity, why do you live in Australia? The only reason a treaty was initiated, was because of the unrelenting carnage. At least 40.000 Maori and colonisers were killed in a six year war, it wasn't going to stop.

Did /Do colonizers recognize the true meaning of human rights? Or is it differently applied to different culture/s? Why is wealth not or gains thereof not reasonably shared to the natives or if shared what's the reason for their extremely poor treatment?

It's really funny when hearing about NZ history from a New Zealander/Kiwi they often sugar coat it as much as possible instead of simply admitting that they were like at the time colonial despots that cheated, killed and displaced an entire ethnic group~ i won't go into the 'forced mixing' a word YT doesn't like people writing/saying. It reminds me of how the Canadians often try to also hide their shameful history with how they treated the native population which leads to the very hidden and 2nd class racism they have toward toward indigenous people there. Of course tons of nations have done this, and it's been done since conquest was a thing in human history but we don't have to really lie about it now. It's done and it's in the past but lying about it only makes injustices cause more problems in the present and future... of course it does save the shame and money of those who most benefits from past wrongs done. I've met like 20 or so New zealanders/Kiwis and they are really chill and progressive people, but they always get touchy or salty when you go into their colonial history, and then for some the real ugly elitist sides come out.

@@eduardodias983 archeological discovery so did they find evidence of the very first polynesian vessel or the very first polynesian person that arrived because if they didn't find any of this......then that's just the earliest form of human life they have found because it is absolutely 100% possible human life started in New Zealand hundreds even thousands and thousands of years ago.

5:23 Yes, and our country still has the lamest funeral march for a national anthem lol. This was more a history of the settlement, though I have been reading books based on happenings in the 1800's and in lots of small communities the Maori and Pakeha all relied on each other heavily and lived together peacefully, though for some years obviously the bigger picture was different.
