Jesus, get into ideological leader worship some more or something so we can at least have better videos with interesting music and graphics.

I've always struggled with both Marxism and anarchism. Bookchin's synthesis of an alternative really helps, even if I do appreciate much of the work that Marxists, anarchists, and the more gradualist socialist politicans that he talks about.

misses the point. Needs to study Greek communities under Ottoman Rule and Kapodistrias. Ecology has nothing to do with Communalism. Marxism has NOTHING to do with Communalism. He is actually hurting the cause of communalism

@@rashanthornton4888 please read the life and work of Ioannis Kapodistrias. The description on the Swiss government page is accurate. He was the architect of the political construct we call Switzerland, our only remaining example of democratic government (not Republic). He was inspired by a tradition of governance stemming from the City States culminating in the Greek communities under Ottoman rule until their disbanding by the Germans (Otto-King of the Hellenes) in 1830.

@@ektorpolykandriotis635 A variation of Bookchins ideas have been used in Rojava under the term Democratic Confederalism, recently in the media due to their forces YPJ and YPGs (and their ANTIFA allies) armed fight against ISIS. Bookchins ideas are essentially a form of monarchism stemming from his Marxist and Anarchist background

@@ektorpolykandriotis635 What? That doesn't even make sense. In the end who gives a fuck about nit picking language? What counts in on the ground movements that establish anti authoritarian resistance to capitalism and fascism. And there are multiple definitions of democracy.

This strikes me more as a rebuke against post left and individual anarchism as well as a critique and expansion of old social anarchist projects than the genuine "break" he thought it was.

😂"post left" 😂 The problem with that is "left" inherently means anti capitalist and you absolutely can not be an anti authoritarian as uphold capitalism. There are absolutely is no anti authoritarian right because there is no anti capitalist right expect groups like fascists.

He wants to bring power down to the local level where we can have a face to face government. He wants to further democratize and privatize power in people rather than the state. I like his idea of decentralizing of authority while confederation of cities is formed. It's similar to mutualism but sets out better how you're going to get there. Still though, I see value in free markets and some respect for private property. I would like networks of cooperatives rather than a communal system.

I appreciate that Bookchin makes the distinction that traditional anarchist movements won't be enough to create lasting social change because none have been a "majoritarian revolutionary movement" that have institutions that look to the future, plus the means to produce those institutions and set them in place, as well as the support and participation of the majority who believe the new systems are rational and satisfying.
