I never have any one to help . So I have work around . I have a piece of pipe that I slide over the end of ratchet and I use a bungee cord to hook into the end of pipe . This holds the tensioner Bach enough to change belt . I normally just hook the other end of bungee cord to a hole in fender

In most cases yes. But sometimes not: Tolerances vary from column to column so generally insert the bushing until it's snug, normally about 65% insertion, then check for tightness by a quick drive. Adjust insertion later as break in occurs.

Mike, hello there. Just grab the very center steering shaft - and push with decent force side to side & up & down to see if / how much play the center shaft exhibits. If it's more than say 2-3mm or 1/8" or more then our kit will help out. Also make sure your front tires aren't overinflated. Go with the door plate PSI which should read 65psi Front for HD 2500. If unladen (driving empty no load) you can reduce up to 10-15 psi no problem. This should help reduced dartiness, as the tires run flatter when not overinflated for your axle load, which you can verify on a truck scale anytime. Hope that helps. All 5 that i have fixed was the drag link bushing on the axle. Only apparent with truck on ground someone steering back and forth and someone specifically looking at that bushing
@RamTruckSteeringFix
Жыл бұрын
Yes Rodney, quite agreed - the Track Bar is a common loose part as our Ram Trucks age, and must be checked. We include a checklist along with our Install Guide Instructions. Right near the top is "check front axle Track Bar joint & pocket bushing" (aka the 'drag link') for stability. There are numerous possible loose Chassis Steering (alignment) related parts & Steering Control parts that MUST be within spec to make sure our Ram Trucks steer straight. Keep in mind this 'Track Bar' is specific to the 4x4 Rams (ie not found on 2x Rams), it's the long bar running parallel to the Front Axle, with a drivers side mount to a frame bracket, visible in the front DS wheelwell. It's other end terminates in a 'pocket' mount on PS side on axle front - there is a bushing embedded in the metal bar. So check both sides for solidity of mounting. If the Ball / Stud joint shows any movement at that DS mount position, as you have a helper turn steering wheel lock to lock (truck running), then bar is loose & causing steering imprecision. Hope that helps y'all to achieve greater steering performance ! Cheers - David Alan / www.RockSolidRamTruckSteering.com

My 2500 has terrible steering all sorts of loose and I have some bad clunk/squeak/popping type noise that comes from the Column when it’s cold outside. Now I have a good idea what to look at. I will be ordering a kit. Does this repair require steering column removal?
@RamTruckSteeringFix
2 жыл бұрын
Great glad we could point you to the source of the problem & solution. Only remove the column if YOU feel it's necessary. Many probably most - 70% + are done 'on Truck' meaning column in place. Rams can vary greatly in the amount of room to do this rebuild, different years or the 5 different engines - and related equipment installed. Our Install Guide discusses both approaches to help guide your approach. - At Your Service - David Alan / RSRamSteeringFix

Awesome video! I just had this same issue and mine looked EXACTLY like yours. I can't prove this but, I think part of the delamination problem on mine was due to the front main seal. It had been leaking for like 5 years and I sinfully really pay attention. I'm curious if it slinging oil into the rubber helped ruin it quicker. Needless to say i have since torn the front of my truck off and have systematically replaced every seal and replaced all the pulley accessories belt tensioner, oil pump, water pump, fan clutch pulley ect, on the engine. But after watching your video I realized i have it super easy right now as i can get to the sucker because the front end of the truck is completely open. So after watching this video and realizing that the new harmonic balancer could go bad at some point in the future. I had no desire to try and do this again without the frontend totally accessible ... I broke down and got a Fluid Dampr. While super expensive (500.00 cringe) I also now have upped the horse power to almost 550 since taking the dive into the front end. Thanks for this video though and the Rock Solid steering fix kit. While i have everything out im going to replace that sucker as well. Cheers!

Cool, TB glad it was helpful - I was shocked to find mine so bad. And there was just a minor vibration not any big indication. Yes, lube leaking on it COULD weaken it, imho. Also pure age & miles. I also have a 2000 e320 Wagon with the Mercedes V-6 - it is now 22 years old & has 237,000 miles on it. The Harmonic Balancer is original but the rubber is starting to disappear - around 25% of it is missing but it is only gone to a depth of 2mm. As a stopgap - I put some RTV into the groove where the rubber has gone away. It's nice & firm and holding, and - in contrast to the Cummins - the Benz unit isn't wobbling at all still smooth as glass and there's no leaks on it - it's just pure age & miles. For sure I will replace it before ANY long road trips. Take care drive safe my friend - David Alan / RSRamTruckSteeringFix

@RamTruckSteeringFix
2 жыл бұрын
Shocks ride performance can vary greatly - picking the right exact model for your road conditions & driving style is key. For example on KYB they offer 3 levels of firmness & control. So you can choose from OE (level 1, aka Excel G) or Gas A Just (level 2) or MonoMax (level 3) Here I show the OE KYB as I was testing it. It made me quite satisfied. Under heavy towing, it probably would have lived only a year or so. If towing heavy (I used to, but not of late) regularly, use their HD Monomax. I have them on the front of my V-8 engined SUV and theyre great in that application. With Bilstein same story - various models. Bilstein are great products no doubt. I've had them on a Dodge Ram Van - great stuff. But I did have a set go bad on the front of that same Ram Van 2500. Bilstein to their credit stood behind their warranty & replaced 'em. The Rancho Adjustable - they flat out get my respect. If towing then unloaded, their adjustablility is UNPARALLELED. So, we have great options. I try not to engage in 'Shock Wars' - just like 'Oil Wars' there's not much point .... Thanks for commenting - David

I finally installed this bushing on a '98 after purchasing two years ago. I may have driven the bushing in too far, as my steering is very tight now and will not return to center. It's way better than the slop I had before, though. I do not want to try to pull it out, do you know if there is a typical break in period on these bushings for those of us that inserted it too far? Thanks!
@RamTruckSteeringFix
3 жыл бұрын
Ok, we're delighted to hear its better - but lets perfect it, ok ? Have you tried using some spray lube like 'white lithium grease' at the point where the shaft passes thru the bushing ? That alone can decrease the friction to the ideal resistance. Sometimes even if you did lube before aseembly, it needs an extra bit of lube once everything is all connected to lower intermediate shaft & truck has been driven. And yes the bushing will 'wear in / break in' after a few miles of driving. Were ALWAYS here to help. If any further questions please visit our webpage / webstore at rocksolidramtrucksteering.com/ and choose 'Contact Us' from upper right top menu - you can text OR email us and we'll be there to help. @RamTruckSteeringFix
3 жыл бұрын
Great yes we are glad to help you Josh. Visit our website at www.RockSolidRamTruckSteering.com and you can read more or order securely by clicking the 'Order Now' link from top menu. BTW, do check your front tire pressure. When you say small cracks seem to throw off the steering balance, it could also be your front tire pressure is TOO high. For example if you're a 2500 / 3500 Ram some guys try to run the 80 psi sidewall pressure (max for LR E 10 ply tires) on all 4 tires when in reality they only need 55-65 in the Fronts. If you run 80 psi the truck will dart all over the road as you seem to describe. The door jam sticker should say 65 psi front on a heavy Ram or a lesser # probably 45-50 psi on a 1500 Ram. Even on the rear you can run LESS than the door jam sticker those are Max #s IF you load the Ram to the axle weight listed there. Going to a truck scale is the only way to determine axle weight precisely. Anyhow, check those Fronts make sure they're not too high.

Sharp eye there ERIC - those are my 19.5 wheels & tires. They're a 'Medium Duty' tire like the next step above the standard Load Range E - 10 ply on the Ram 2500 / 3500. These are LR F or G for 12 or 14 ply and around 4,000# @ 110 psi. More capacity & better ride smoothness. Not too mention longer lasting by 50% vs 10 ply. Will the serpentine sling fluid if the damper is bad?
@RamTruckSteeringFix
3 жыл бұрын
Mike, my replacement damper is a stock all metal Cummins one. Not a Fluiddamper that has fluid in it for balancing. So I can't say for certain. I thought they were 100% sealed to prevent that. Call them & ask. On the OE style damper like my first & this one - the vibration & visual wobble are your clue - very evident on idle & rev up. Engine off - the rubber strip protruding from joint is another dead giveaway. All the best - David / RamSteeringFix
