Great vid. How long have you had the Cirklon? It's a pleasure to watch someone so fast on it. I've only had mine 3/4 of a year and I think I'm just about getting the config right with my gear. Crazy hard to learn but I know and already starting to feel in the long run it will be worth it. Thanks for the upload

Thanks! I’ve had it for more than 3 years now. I also didn’t use most of it in the first year but at some point I’ve made an effort to read the whole manual and actually apply these features. It takes time. But similar to practice violin or piano all these efforts bring you more joy in playing music.

i feel like any of the elektron digis/takts (particularly) the digitone would be good enough for this style of midi sequencing pretty comparable from the features ive seen here. i guess chord notes are all the same length on the elektrons but other than that, its prety powerful

Can this interface with MMRC Midi Patchbay with 128 midi channels accessible?
@advanced-research
25 күн бұрын
Cirklon itself could work as MIDI patchbay, so this would be probably redundant. But you still connect them with USB or MIDI. See page 7-1 in Cirklon manual for more info. I personally use Cirklon with Multiclock, which also can route and merge MIDI signals. Cheers

@@advanced-research Is the cirklon or the multiclock master? I have a multiclock myself and run it as master right now because it was easier to set it up that way, but from how you write about multiclock routing and merging I would assume you're running the cirklon as master. Could you share your experience? Thanks for a great video btw! I learned a lot of new tricks. Would love more videos, and if possible, with more explanations of the tricks you apply, for example the aux row swap in this video.
@advanced-research
12 күн бұрын
@xyzclothing Thanks! I use Multiclock with Ableton and Cirklon. Ableton runs as master, because other way around is much less stable. The whole idea is to sequence with Cirklon, print audio to Ableton, and then combine audio from Ableton with new sequences from Cirklon. So Ableton is no more than glorified tape recorder. Sometimes it’s simpler to just record straight to RME duRec, less chance of audio glitches as with Ableton.

Cirklon is definitely nice but these days I think the sqaurp hapax has it beat. I never tried a cirklon though. Probably holds it value very well though.
@advanced-research

Cirklon has dedicated encoders for every step, large display and 5 pair of midi in/out - this alone makes it way more convenient to use than other sequencers on the market. On Digitakt there’s no way to see what note on what step without holding the step button. M8 is really powerful as a sequencer, but there’s only one physical midi port. Torso T-1 is fun, but has totally different workflow based on algorithms. Cirklon doesn't have MPE and a lot of other features you'd think would be there, so there’s that. Hapax looks cool, but working with the Ableton Push style grid is not my cup of tea. There’s so many devices to choose from so hopefully everyone can find something for themselves. But there are devices that you constantly coming back to, and Cirklon (at least for me) is one of them.
@voodoohex72
25 күн бұрын
@@advanced-research yeah I disagree. I’d rather have 128 pads then the 16 encoders personally also hapax has pretty much the same midi io when you count the usb io. I’d love to try a cirklon to compare but not waiting three years and it seems pricey. Hapax can also play two projects at the same time. Have you checked one out? It’s very very good.
@advanced-research
25 күн бұрын
@voodoohex72 It’s possible to get Cirklon v1 on a used market for something around 1700-1800 eur, which still is not cheap but better than wait 3 years and pay 2000 eur plus VAT. As for Hapax, I haven’t tried it yet, only had experience with Pyramid. What’s the appeal of having so many pads in a sequencer for you? Playing it like a keyboard?
@voodoohex72
25 күн бұрын
@@advanced-research yes that’s one thing and getting drum patterns going very fast(you are doing 8 tracks at once.) as well as visual feedback, selecting things very quickly etc. Real-time recording of notes and drums etc. Triggering patterns muting soloing etc. Honestly there is a big list once you see the power first hand. I can’t imagine the cirklon having half the ui experience of the hapax tbh. I had a pyramid too and hapax is way way better. Pyramid was great too though.
