I've been listening to rock and blues and everything else for well over 50 years and I know I'm gonna catch it for saying this but Bonamassas playing is missing something. Skill, speed and getting the right note every time....? He's definitely got it in spades but there's a certain soul that's lacking in his playing. I understand how easy it is to get bowled over by his enormous skill on the fret board but to my ear the heart and soul that should be behind a master like Beck or Clapton just isn't there. Maybe he'll get it with age but I don't hear it yet. It's not something you can point to and say, "Right there. He's missed it". It's just something that either he has or he doesn't and it's not something that you can communicate to someone who doesn't have decades of guitar appreciation. It would be like seeing a perfect forgery of a Van Gogh. Not many would catch it but if you've been looking at impressionists your whole life, you're not likely to be fooled.. Now, go ahead. Let me have it!

Um, no. I have a brain of my own and don't need someone ELSE to tell me how good someone else is or isn't. Like I have said on my other posts about Joe, the only thing he is good at is copping licks and riffs, but he doesn't have his own voice and personality.
@hesmon

Joe Bonamassa is very versatile but he happens to be a blues lover. He can play fast rock licks, country, jazz, classical, you name it. You must be a shred lover. Like Van Halen doesn't get boring with his endless tapping. I like Eddie and a bit of Shred now and then but most licks have been done before. Hard to be original this day and age.

I like ALL genres of music, and play guitar and bass as well. So, I say this with NO condescension to those who don't play instruments, but Joe just comes across as he is just recycling old blues/rock clichés when he plays with no originality or voice of his own. He is a nice guy, and seems relatively humble, but the bottom line is his playing. We ALL "borrow" as musicians, but the best of us infuse our own style as we play. Joe doesn't do that.
@hesmon

1970borntorun The funny thing is that Joe likes to infuse other genres into his playing to make it more interesting. When he had a bit of a falling out with Gary Moore, he stated that he couldn't be bothered to play the blues like the old way and wanted to make it fresh and he said he'd leave the cliches to people like Gary Moore.
@1970borntorun

Now I have even LESS respect for him to sit there and be shitty and condescending to an established and respected giant like Gary Moore. Joe doesn't play ANYTHING in a fresh way so his comment is truly laughable and hypocritical. Gary will be revered and remembered forever. Joe will be just a short footnote in rock music history. Wow, what a little dickhead. And everyone is (was) so fooled how "respectful" he is of his mentors and elders. What a crock of shit.

Yep, john's opinion of ringo's drumming was so bad, that he got ringo to do all the drumming on his first solo album after the Beatles split .... Johns "not even the best drummer in the Beatles " was something called humour ... You may have heard of it ...

I didn't call you stupid . I called your comment "stupid and ignorant " - which it is . You didn't make any "point". You just made a cheap shot at Ringo whilst clearly knowing nothing on the subject. The drummer is such an important part of any band , so to suggest that the Beatles were a "much better band than Ringo was a drummer " makes no (correct spelling this time ;) ) sense at all to me . P.s. Many of my top students struggle to play "I Feel Fine" accurately , so your gran must be ace!
@ff2nd

I may not be a drummer, but I do at least know how to spell "know". Calling someone stupid then displaying basic spelling mistakes a 7 year old could spot, really does nothing for your argument. My point was that, while Gilson Lavis is a great drummer, the Beatles were a much better band than Ringo was a drummer. Therefore, the original statement wasn't ALWAYS accurate.
