This is right outside of Gate 2 Kadena US Air Force Base. Remember the US has a HUGE military presence on Okinawa. A lot of US Air Force, US Marines, US Navy and some US Army personnel and married spouses are in this video. I was a Marine stationed on Okinawa back in 1995 and we would spend a lot of time on Gate 2 Street and BC Street in Koza. If I remember correctly a lot of the businesses accepted US dollars 😅

Gate 2 actually hasn't changed that much since the 90s. Some of the same clubs. I've heard BC street is dead though, as is Kinville up by Camp Hansen.

It used to be considerably busier... 1970... returned from Vietnam. Had the occasional fight, but it was broke up quickly so the MP's ..and JP's didn't get there. Lots of local ladies to invite you in for a drink. But I look at this and I see either a lot of civilian dependants or civilians who just live there now... otherwise the standards for civilian attire has gone away. You would not have made it out of the gate looking like they do here. That's sad really. Okinawa was a great place. But military standards were very strict. In uniform and out. Especially since you had a mammasuan in every barracks who washed and ironed everything. The barbers were the best and so good you got a haircut once a week. If you weren't in the field, you were in the gym and or running. And in between you were in the ville. This was sad to watch.

I was there in '74 when the Japanese were taking back control of the island from us Americans. Armed Forces police took care of trouble for the most part unless you crossed paths with the Japanese Police 3 man walking patrols. Gate 2 street was fairly empty when we Marines got paid and took in the strip clubs on both Gate 2 and BC Street. Much has changed in these 50 years.

Western culture turned degenerate around the mind 1960s and continued to be more and more degenerate. What you see in Japan is simply western culture being expressed in the far more developed culture of the east. Western culture used to be great.

I was there from 81-83. They’ve totally Americanised it since then. There were tons of bars, but very few had English names. There were also a lot of audio stores there too. Every brand had their own store. Pioneer, Sony, Akia, JVC, etc. I’d probably be disappointed to go there now. On the second side of the street you were on was a place called The Paris Steam Bath. It was amazing what you got for 15 bucks.
