I like the appearances of those villains... Or at least I did before Red Hood killed them all. It really sets up some stuff within the future of the Nolanverse with John and Stephanie Brown like going up against Red Hood. I thought the fight at the start was a nice addition with the flashing lights and do appreciate the villains we saw (especially Roman Sionis who looked set up to become Black Mask). I love how Red Hood just showed up and started killing because that's pretty spot on for how the character should most likely be. I know there's probably not gonna be any other Nolan stuff but if there was anything this is sort of an interesting idea to go off of. If only Joseph Gordon-Levitt could have played his character at the end though.

I enjoyed this, but constructively, I feel like some of the villains like penguin and ventriloquist felt too comic-esque in design, and felt out of place in such a real-world setting like the Nolanverse. In hindsight, maybe Ventriloquist could have been replaced by someone established like Zsasz from Batman Begins or something. Besides that minor gripe, I'd have been interested to see how Jason Todd would have wound up fitting into this universe. Presumably, he was never a 'robin' but it could have been cool if he was someone who was gravely injured from one of the explosions from Joker's attacks in The Dark Knight, but survived and became a vigilante. It would be different, but it could have worked.
@woodytondorf2491
Жыл бұрын
We didn't want to use villains who had appeared before in the movies - part of this story was showing what and who comes after a figure like Batman in Gotham so we wanted to avoid previous baddies. That said, we got permission to talk to the actor who played Ventriloquist in a terrific Nolan-verse fan film called Puppet Master and we loved his performance so much we wanted to create a bit of a shared universe. The Penguin was the obvious choice for aspiring crime boss but we didn't really have the budget in the end to make him as hyper-real as you'd see in a film. Jason's origin was definitely going to play with the disaster in the Narrows and the 7 lost years where Bruce "retires" before returning in TDKR, and then opening a window to the exploits of Checkmate and Task Force X. Thanks for watching!

When I younger, I legitimately thought this was official. I’ve always considered it to be part of Nolan’s Dark Knight Films. Every time I watched those movies, I’d watch this after. When I found out it was a fan film, I thought, “Okay, still canon in my brain.” I really wish WB hadn’t shut down this project, it would’ve been something incredible. Also, I know you probably get this a lot, but that helmet is badass!
@woodytondorf2491

That's very nice of you to say. Means a lot to be a part of anyone's head canon. We were really disappointed to get the cease and desist, but it was probably for the best. We were going for a budget of like $30k and the stuff we had planned (Nightwing fighting his way out of GCPD HQ, Red Hood launching a one man assault against the Ghost Dragon lair, two Nightwing/Red Hood fights, not to mention Black Mask's acid facial makeup) would have been way more than that to do semi-well. The helmet rules, thank you. Dan Crawley is a big shot Hollywood costume designer so we really lucked out getting him to do it on the side. It's been very cool to see how many Red Hood helmets either borrow directly from Dan's design or are inspired by it.

The woman who escapes is Lynx, leader of the Golden/Ghost Dragons and semi-antagonist of Tim Drake in the books. Mohawk dude was an unnamed leader of the Loboys, a gang that shows up in No Man's Land. The Street Demonz are one of the lesser gangs in Gotham that pop up every now and then and factor into No Man's Land briefly when the GCPD are taking back territory. The rest were random organized crime gangsters.

@woodytondorf2491

There's one darkish picture of the suit from the waist up, but that's about it. We didn't have much money left after the Red Hood helmet. If you want to see detailed pics of that, our artist recently put those up on his IG - Danmakesstuff. The Robin suit was a slightly larger and slightly armored domino mask, with some touched up motorcycle armor with blue detailing in the chest, the Batman bladed gauntlets, and a souped-up police duty belt. (To remind us of Blake's previous life as a cop.) If we had been funded, the look was going to change substantially - it was basically going to be the proto-suit from Batman Begins with some homemade touches.

It would be fun to see bigger companies employ the Star Wars view on fan films, though wait and see how Disney handles this in the future... It would have been amazing to keep this going, but whenever you try something like this you have to be mindful that giant companies have lots of jobs and billions of dollars sunk into this, and they are absolutely within their rights to tell you to stop. Getting an official Cease and Desist definitely sucked, but it also meant we had made something good or remarkable enough that Warner Bros noticed, and that helped ease the pain a bit.
