Does anyone know how they created this style of film. like the hazey look. I dont know how to explain it. Other examples would be like in the film " Fallen Angels" directed by Wong Kar or "All About Lily Chou Chou" by Shunji Iwai. Does it have something to do with the fact the film was produced in the 2000s and the camera graphics wern't as clear??? Or do the directors add this to the film to create some kind of effect?

The "Summer" section of the movie was shot on Fuji film which gave it a warmer feel. Matthew Libatique, the director of photography, also spoke how he "pulled" the Fuji film a "full stop", meaning he opened the camera aperture to let in more light which slightly overexposed the film and reduced the contrast between light and dark areas of the image. You can hear his commentary on the DVD. Sadly Libatique's commentary isn't available on youtube while Aronofsky's is. There were also several different cameras employed to give variety in cutting, even Eyemo cameras and camcorders. The goal was to have the film look dreamlike during the Summer portion but as the seasons wore on to become more harshly realistic and high contrast, like the experience of waking up.

This vile, humiliating film snuffed out something vital inside her. Up until this film, she was the most radiantly beautiful woman in cinema. From this point on, she was... paler, more gaunt and wraithlike, with a permanent hollowness in the eyes. Hollywood is an evil thing.

I've been to all of the places where they filmed this movie. The pier in the beginning is vastly different now and was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, so they had to rebuild it and it looks like shit now. Coney Island is also very different. That tall tower - The Parachute Drop - is still there, but Coney Island is much more cleaner and built up than before. That roller coaster at 2:56 was demolished before the movie was released. However, the outside of Sara's apartment still looks the same.

This is one of the best, most effective films ever made. It’s leaves you feeling some sort of intense way when it’s over. I remember about 15 years ago when I was in college, I called up a girlfriend of mine and said, “do you want to come over? We’re watching Requiem for a Dream.” She said, “no thanks, I don’t need to be disturbed and depressed right now.” Lol bottom line, this movie is powerful and really moves you when you watch it in a deep and intense way.
