I know it’s fiction, just saying. My my second cousin was in World War I he was an army ambulance driver, and when he brought back a officer who almost died on the trip, the surgeon yelled at him and told him to go get one of those Lorie. He did not know what a Lorie was but figured out it was a truck had never driven a truck in his life, but figured out how to drive it and drove back to the front, his name was Monger Madison Duke. I called him, uncle Monger.

This was one of the best shows ever!!! I was really young but my older siblings watched it. I was one of the gen x kids traumatized by the finale It wasn't a Chicken!!! I've seen it again over the years it was truly brilliant, funny yet commentary at the same time. anti war. seeing as it's obvious it was about the Vietnam war while being technically set in the Korean war.

My poker buddies and I started a tontine over 20 years ago. We've been playing together for 40 years. We lost 1 a few months ago, another several years ago. And the idiot of the group will likely spend the remainder of his natural life in prison. (long story, but stupid) We started with 8 and are down to 5. Now I get to try and explain to the daughter of the one holding the bottle when he died that the bottle needs to be passed on and it's not hers to keep. I downloaded this video to my phone to show her.

Charles was a much more complex character than Frank. And Potter wasn't a cookie cutter replacement of Blake.
@Sporadic2777

It was different to be sure. Frank, Henry and Trapper were just continuations of the movie versions of their characters, slapstick humor, a few serious moments. Potter I think was the most significant update. The dynamic he brings as a far more competent CO than Henry ever could be really changed things, and it shows in the respect he is given by the other members of the unit that wasn't quite there with Henry. Frank was pretty played out as a character, especially as Margaret moved on. Larry Linville recognized this and bowed out. Winchester was a far more formidable foe for Hawkeye and BJ, and wasn't even always an opponent, as his character was deeper and more nuanced. BJ I think was a slight downgrade or maybe sidegrade from Trapper. His humor was cleaner, and his relationship with Hawk was more mature than two college bros pranking everyone, but it was pretty clear that he was meant to be the buddy rather than the star that was Hawkeye and the reason why Wayne Rogers, who'd been under the impression he would be co-lead with Alda, left the show.
@Dirk-van-den-Berg

@@Sporadic2777 The replacements they brought in for Blake, Trapper and Frank were the opposites of the previous characters. Before, Hawkeye was the sole carrier of the show, BJ, Potter and Winchester were written so to challenge the domination of Hawkeye. It worked.

To love and friendship. I got a buddy who did co tract work for the gov't during Afghanistan. I hadn't known him very long when he told me this. Kind of gave him the benefit of the doubt. He had a way with words and joking about that made you think maybe he was spinning yarns for kicks. Not this one time though. I work and he loves near a good bar. Thats how we met. One day, we were taking the edge off, get a bit drunk, and he goes real quiet. I think the subject of conversation had somehow shifted to his time over there. He tearfully mentioned that he too was part of a tontine. The last one, as it were. Hes got a pendant. I forget what exactly it is but its a bobble on a length of chain. That was the tontine. He told.me he misses them everyday. Himself, another Gman, and a couple Marines and an Army infantryman. All gone. Just him left. I suspect o few of his stories to be jokes at the gullible man's expense. Not this one. Not for a moment.

The writers for M*A*S*H could have you laughing your ass off, or bawling like a baby. This bit still makes my eyes leak, as I could see something like this happening for real. One of the best episodes that still comes to mind is the news reporter and his crew doing interviews with some of the people at the 4077th. And it was made even more real by filming it in black and white, like old newsreels.

So many great memories growing up with shows like this. I was born in 68 so being a kid in the 70s we had 3 channels on TV. Shows like MASH, Happy Days, Wild Wild West, Star Trek, Sha Na Na, Hee Haw...the list is long and distinguished (so's my Johnson-name the movie that quote came from) but MASH was probably my fave. Like you said, so many hilarious episodes, so many soul crushers. From Colonel Flag, the practical jokes and Frank Burns to Henry Blake getting killed, this scene, and so many others. Not many of the original cast left...
