Telling a child they're not allowed to eat later if they're hungry isn't good. Otherwise I agree with this. Sometimes we're not as hungry in one moment but an hour later we need food. Just because a child isn't hungry at meal time doesn't mean they should have to wait 6 hours for another chance to eat.

For me it was don’t get up till Ive finished and eat or don’t eat at all. I remember one time when I was 6 I waited for them to get up and then threw my plate away. They pulled it out of the trash and made me finish it.

This is what my family would do. Pretty sure that’s abuse 😅

When I was very little, my father forced me to eat chicken until I threw up. From that point till like 5 years ago, I never touched meat, except processed meat.

Why the hell do parents accommodate this?? I was a picky eater as a child and my father would sit with me at the table and try to convince me to eat. After years of no progress he took me to a phychologist. Turns out I had an eating disorder as well as autism (didn't like the texture of certain foods) and left unchecked would have caused me problems later on in life. Thankfully, after treatment and therapy, I was a lot better. Stop enabling bad behaviours please!

Forcing your kid to eat should be a friggin crime. I was forced to eat when I was little and threw it up shortly after. Sorry I'm not sorry. XD

My parents tried to do me like this, I just didn’t eat. some foods just aren’t compatible with some kids, especially if they have sensory issues like asd

Thank you for adding that third bit because I know several people who's parents would only make them what they liked as a child and now, in their mid 20's, every single one of them has like 4 foods they'll eat. Nothing else. Not that that's morally wrong or anything, but I feel sad for them because they're missing out on so many good foods 😢

Yes!! I love trying new foods, and I can't imagine never expanding my palate. Of course I still have times where I just want that one food I'm craving, but trying new stuff is so fun!

Yes!!!!! It feels easy in the moment but the palate is like any other sensory system. If not developed, the effects can be long lasting! 🍴❤

I don't think I was an picky eater. But if i didn't want to eat dinner i would eat some bread and water and go to sleep. Knowing if i was hungry in the morning there would be breakfast. I could have fixed myself something else to eat but i was more interested in going to bed. To this day i still don't like fruit salad and cream potatoes.
