Delicate, intense, sweetly tinged with nostalgic notes. Ceasing to be messengers of one's own, native culture, involves a flattening to a monoform culture. I recharge my eyes with the profiles of the mountains to return to the origins. Every time I lose them for too long, I get lost. So I reach them and my breath becomes wider. Then I go home and cook a good plate of pasta alla norma😁

If people knew how many professionals immigrate to take low level jobs they would be shocked. I worked with an immigrant family where the dad was a doctor and the mom a nurse in Vietnam. They butchered chickens in Iowa and had two beautiful teen children. I think of them all the time and their graciousness amidst really terrible situations.

Kids all over can be pretty selfish and terrible. They simply don’t understand until it’s too late. I’m so sorry for this Mom. It’s one thing if the parents are really well integrated in the community and have friends, but particularly for English as second language parents, it’s very lonely and isolating. Online dating is also awful so good luck!!!

As the daughter of a Taiwanese mother, I can so relate to the home cooked Chinese food, especially the dumplings! And even when they were fighting, how the mom tried to send her daughter home with them. Perfectly captured a Chinese mother! They truly show their love by feeding others. My beautiful mother passed away 13 years ago and I still yearn for her delicious food. I almost never go to Chinese restaurants because they can never live up to her food. God, what I wouldn't give to eat her food again. I hope by writing this someone else may see this and go visit their mothers, eat their food, learn their recipes, and just treasure the moments with them. 💗

reminds me of my chinese mom & grandma 💔 as much as i can’t stand their nagging and hurtful statements and constant criticism, i still wept at this and the thought of them feeling lonely. i know in reality i most likely won’t be able to retain a relationship with them forever as i am about to start HRT but god…if we could just find a way to connect and set boundaries so that we still could still be in each other’s lives somehow 💔 as much as they have hurt me i know that they were just doing their best. i know that they are just loving me the only way they know how to. i don’t want to completely cut them off from my life. i know i don’t have to, but i am willing to to sacrifice my sanity the way they have sacrificed their time, energy, and money into me growing up ❤️ i want us to love each other, as flawed as that love may be ❤️ i love you mom. i love you grandma

For me this video represents 2 things: 1. Our desire to use our other half of the relationship in order to improve our status in society. Instead of feeling one with the soul that is in the body in front of us. 2. The legitimacy of taking out our frustration and bitterness on others, instead of exposing our vulnerability by expressing our true feelings. When she took out her bitterness on her daughter who arrived late for the Chinese New Year, instead of telling her: "Thank you for coming, I missed you, I feel very lonely." When she said to the first guy: "You're fat!", and gave him a devastating criticism and then pretended to be innocent in front of the service representative. Instead she could just be nice. talk respectfully, listen to him, be interested in what happened to him, to offer exercises from her experience, and from there politely say: "I enjoy the conversation, but I feel that we are not compatible", or "I was happy to talk to you and would be happy to talk again." Very simple, respectable, And very matter-of-fact. And so on. Before she decided to embark on this journey, she treated a patient who said he had been married for two years, she completely missed the look he and his wife were giving each other. This is a look of soul mates. She also missed that the man is not so "presentable" compared to his wife. All of this made her go on a journey to look for the man who would make her feel this way, without asking herself: "What do I bring to a relationship?". She did not understand that what she saw was an internal match between the two of them and she is constantly is looking for an external match. This video represents everything that is happening today. Although we are social animals, the factors that the film pointed out are the ones that make us live our lives lonely and unhappy. Even if we will never admit it...
