I cant imagine the raw power those trainers must've experienced being balanced so perfectly by those spectacular Orca-- i can see the underlying worry in their eyes also, especially John H who has been a really great advocate for Orca also-- its clear he saw early on the risk, but i have so much respect for his courage to speak out against Seaworld!! and his love of the Orca! If I would have to leave the horses I know and than hear they are dead when I warned the owner's over and over!! #empty the f..tanks!! Give these orca's in a seabay with human care so that they can feel the ocean and have more room,...see fish again,...Because SW crossbred them they can never be freed (they bred orca's who never would see each other in their natural habitat)- they have no own dialect/language, no social structure, nothing!! But a sebay with human care IS THE SOLUTION!! But SW is to greedy to do that!! F..monster's,!!

Seriously, just think about it for a minute and realize how harsh that is. It's not like you're keeping a hyperactive dog indoors. It's an animal that lives in the vastness of the ocean and moves around in a way that humans can't imagine, and an aquarium of that size is the human equivalent of being locked in a one-square-foot cell for the rest of your life.

Mr. Hargrove worked at SeaWorld for about 20 years, even traveling to other marine parks overseas teaching other trainers, but was let go in 2012 for violating safety protocols-he didn’t resign. (He was also one of their best waterworks performers, and leaves barely 2 years after waterworks were banned, interestingly). Not a year later he launches a career against SeaWorld. You don’t spend nearly two decades working for an organization that abuses animals as badly as Mr. Hargrove claims. There are plenty of trainers (Wendy Ramirez, Ken Peters, etc.) who’ve worked for SeaWorld even longer and still work there to this day. Most trainers and ex-trainers still stand proudly by their work. You’d be hard pressed to find even 10 that don’t, most of whom only spent two or three years with SeaWorld. Brigette Pirtle, the other trainer in this video, has even recanted her statements in Blackfish and regrets her role in it.

When John got back from France, after spending 2 years there training the orca trainers there, with Seaworld orcas. He went back to the San Antonio park and all SW cared abou5 now, was inseminating the orcas. Something John couldn't do. Then John injured his ribs and was out for a month. Then shortly after that he reinjured his knee really badly and was out 3 months.. his Dr told him that he better quit doing what he was doing. Or he wouldn't have a knee anymore. So he resigned. I just finished reading John Hargrove's book "Beneath the Surface". This man and all trainers love these whales, they stay thinking the whales need them, otherwise the next person may not look after them as well. Its all so psychological. The corporation uses the trainers and the whales, they know the trainers love the whales with everything they have and use it on them. The hardest thing Hargrove ever did in his life was leave the whales, he could care less about seaworld, it was the whales, he understood them and he understood that they were unhappy and that captivity was not healthy. Orca's are a complex mammal with highly treasured famial relationships yet this corporation would steal their babies and ship them off to a new aquarium! Hargrove said the mothers NEVER got over it. Seaworld must stop its breeding program and if it had any decency it would build sea pens and allow trainers to show them how to hunt live fish then let them go. But no, they won't, and all the current whales will be captive until they die! Until they stop the shows, I will never step foot in their park again. Yea, they do great rehab work but its all cancelled out when I think of what they are doing to those amazingly majestic sentinent beings... the Orca!

In the wild Kasatka would have lived her entire life with her family, her mother, aunts, sisters, brothers, and most important those 3 children and granddaughter. But because Seaworld owns her they have done to her what they have done to all of their orcas. Taken her babies and shipped them to other parks. And she mourned. The first baby they took from her, she made sounds the staff at Seaworld had never heard before. But they still kept breeding her and taking away her babies. So yes, stopping the cruel behavior of Seaworld is justified. Read his book. And learn about the research marine biologists have done about wild orcas. Then you will know all sides of the story.
@lizsays3324
2 жыл бұрын
I just read his book as well. It's amazing the tricks people have been able to teach orcas. But when he talks about how all the original orcas were captured as babies so none of the captive orcas have ever been taught acceptable social skills by adult orcas. Social skills that wild orcas developed over thousands of years that are essential to their survival, essential to their mental, emotional, and physical health. Just that one thing alone is so cruel. Captive orcas live such desperate, stunted lives and that turns amazing tricks into just another day at the prison factory.

***** Lain, first off moving the Orcas to an ocean sanctuary would not be healthy for them for multiple reasons. I suggest you do your research before advocating such ideas. Also it is completely true that the majority of their Orcas are captive bred, there is an official record of all that maintained by the government. They are not wild. Also you suggest that they are held in tiny spaces, which is very misleading. They have all the room they need to be healthy. Sometimes, when given the choice, the whales will actually choose to hang out in smaller pools. I fully support Seaworld and all AZA accredited facilities because I have plenty of reason to believe they are good things for animals both in the wild and in captivity, and see no reason to be ashamed of that. Its real animal welfare. If anyone here is the fool I would say it is you who clearly has just listened to what one side with an agenda said and did no research or thinking for yourself whatsoever. Please do not just swallow everything you are told.

Insearchofwhales , try looking at an ocean coastline, "In Search of Whales". THAT's where they belong. You are thoroughly programmed. IF "they are not wild", then why did Tilly & Keto kill people? Ever stopped to consider that the orca chooses a smaller pool to get away from the others? You have no sense of the scale of this world, and you have no clue what these animsl need to be healthy. $W's record is disgraceful, their handling of Dawn's and Lex's death and their $$$ of $$ to keep the government "on their side", which is to say, the profit side, goes against all ideas of conservation. oceans pens have worked before, they can work again. STOP captive breeding, let the orcas retire to an ocean that will allow them to be what they ARE. OCEAN dwellers. Stop hugging that tattered, made in China stuffy of ShameOnYou.

AnimalLeftist Wild does not equal killing people just as domestic does not equal perfectly safe. With character limit in mind I won't go into the reasons for those whales individual aggressions, but if you are going to attack somebody for being attacked by captive killer whales you might as well attack everyone who was ever shown aggression by captive dogs, horses, etc. Your comment about them sometimes choosing smaller pools to get away from others, I don't really see what your getting at so you would have to explain that further please. The scale of the world has nothing to do with with whether the whales are happy or not. Also while I am certainly no expert(though I hope to be in the future!), I am not exactly clueless as to what those animals require. Also, and this is a little hard to respond to because your comment is kinda all over the place, but the government doesn't take bribes from companies to "stay on their side". And even if that did happen that has nothing to do with conservation, which is about protecting wild animals not about profit vs. non profit. If your referring to Keiko about ocean pens working before, that did not end well. Keiko died prematurely as he struggled to adapt. Captive breeding is a great step in conservation because you can maintain the species somewhere should the wild population get riddled down to grim numbers, and also opens doors to research that may benefit the species. Understanding is key to protecting. Dumping long captive animals in the ocean would cause unnecessary stress from travel, environment change, etc. and expose them to germs that their immune systems are not built up against, and like with Keiko there is a considerable chance of ultimate failure in adapting/readapting. Also for the record, I don't have any seaworld products. Not sure what point you were trying to make with that last statement, it just sounded like a final insult you tacked on. Putting anger and insults in your argument like that is usually a pretty ineffective way to debate.

@Insearchofwhales
9 жыл бұрын
Hi Lindsey, I know you posted this a while ago but it seems that nobody has replied properly so I will. Firstly, collapsed dorsal fins are not an indication of poor health. It is merely relaxed muscle, in that condition because it does not take on the pressure it would in the wild. Not a bad thing. Also while it is true that Seaworld did obtain some orcas from the wild, that was a long time ago, a practice that no longer exists for them, so that point is dead. Lastly, yes, Tili killed people. Captive dogs, horses, alligators, etc. also have killed people. Animals are unpredictable and some are dangerous. That is not necessarily an indicator of abuse or neglect. I'm not saying attacks happen totally randomly for no reason, but most attacks are just not because of abuse and certainly not in Seaworld. If you respond, please do so in a mature and civil manor or I will not bother reading it.

Mary Flavin glad to hear you say that, and I'm glad that you seem to be able to argue with some level of maturity unlike 90% of youtubers :) I can promise though that I always back up my opinions. Its good to do lots of research on both sides before forming your own opinion on stuff like this. When I was younger I though keeping dolphins cooped up was bad but I understand things better now and am quite convinced of the dishonest, if not manipulative, nature of Blackfish.
