I struggle with the hand placement and the fact you have to find the right pressure to apply to the dpad it’s fun but if I’m trying to practice I mostly use DAS but now I know how to so I always use rolling and I got my first ever 100k points

I agree. I can’t find the balance between not holding d-pad enough or to much so it’s just das.

Completely agree about how healthy it is to learn a new Tetris skill from square one! I'm not sure if I have the motivation to commit a month or two to learn rolling, but I did spend a month adjusting to a Goofy Foot when I learned hypertapping back in late 2018. Coming from TGM on arcade stick, that meant my brain was adjusting to a very different stacking meta, the left/right reverse of movement & rotation (which I thought would ultimately help me keep my NES brain separate from my TGM brain---and that worked), and of course I was learning how much pressure to use for hypertapping. It was a slog at first, but eventually I got competent enough to play lvl18 on maxout pace and lvl19 nearly there. Working out your mental elasticity keeps your brain young, and it's always rewarding when you finally figure out that new skill.

Thanks for the tips, I’m still in the low 200,000s pb. But I’ll try my best to get to a place where rolling is the next step. I wonder how Velcro stickers would help keep the controller in place, or would that be against tournament rules?

Thanks! I played a lot as a kid and in high school - different versions of Tetris. But on this version, I grinded it for probably a year and a half to two years to finally max.

I enjoyed the insight into the event. It's cool to actually see the players when they are not competing. 8:46 I saw the Discord conversation about how the restaurant asked the group to walk thru the drive thru. It was only funny to me because I know of an incident where a restaurant refused service because the man tried to order at the drive thru without a car.

@@Kadencabs I’m still kinda figuring out the nuance of that myself. But I think that particular problem just gets better gradually over time. I think I tend to rest my thumb over the direction that moves the piece left, while almost pushing it down enough to move, but not quite. Then move over quickly and do the same thing with the other direction when needed. Just takes lots of hours to feel those things out for yourself, but it does get better with time.

I've been trying to figure out a rolling technique since I just can't seem to figure out Lv19 with DAS, and I can't wait to give some of these a try. As a piano player, I've never even thought about attempting to spread my rotation hand more vertically, instead of spreading it out horizontally. Thank you for the tips!!

Do all right handed players use the right hand as the roll hand? To me, using the left hand so that you can don't have to hold the controller upside down seems waaay easier and more intuitive. EDIT: I see now that you need the A and B buttons at the top, otherwise it's kind of impossible to contort your hand to hit them.

@@danielhicks4826 I hear ya man. I’d love to be able to keep up with the younger players. I hope myself or some of the veterans who have been around for a while will pick it up. And yeah, being a bass player may help out. I think a few of the rollers have played instruments like guitar or piano, and that is probably a big help with this technique. I’m glad you found the video encouraging! You can absolutely learn it if you put in the time and practice. It’s been rewarding already.
