If you add more things to the chain to catch it in the right places it gives it more support to lift it

It’s a bit late, since we are using the hook on a chain mechanism (it flings the rings onto the goals, very good), but yeah we tried that and it worked better. The hook mech works the best though.

It is currently 3:1 speed, optimized for open-field crossings and reaching the balls quicker. The downside is it turns slower, and needs to accelerate to full speed. Although, it only takes a few milliseconds to do so.

The ratchet keeps it from releasing whenever it wants to, and if you’ve messed around with the slapshot field elements (purple dispenser) or made any ratchet, you’ll find out in order to spin the ratchet in the other direction, you have to release the arm that catches on the gear.

The piston just moves the arm slightly so it doesn’t contact the gear, allowing it to spin the opposite direction

Creator Academy uses a gravity gear combined with the ratchet, and is a neat part designed by the Vex IQ game masters, but that doesn’t allow you to use the two motors when the catapult is pulled back, rendering them useless for a good three seconds when running around the field for balls

I changed the design because I found out the winch doesn’t allow the catapult to suddenly accelerate the way I want it to, so I can’t launch balls from across the field.

we found that the motor to the catapult does not get worn out so the ratchet mechanism isnt needed at least for our robot. if you wanted a really fast ratio for your cata then this would be useful (fof perspective our cata goes down about as fast as yours).

some teams like 2145z have the ling part as a seperate stage and it spins in reverse and the rings go along the top on the conveyor and get pulled onto the goal with the hooks on the conveyor

Just tried it, it works pretty well now. We just have to change the the standoff to something else to get the rings onto the mobile goal 👍
