To me most good bass singers sound like a really low not on a bass guitar. Sterbans voice, especially when he was youger had a quality of a bass section on an orchestra. Theres a reason he has a superstar presence onstage.

Not only does this confirm to me that Richard Sterban is the best bass singer ever (i didnt say lowest) but he is the coolest ever.
How exciting it must have been for Aaron McCune to sing with Richard Esteban.

Sterban's bass gives me CHILLs! I just have to listen, and when he does a ballad solo I get warm all over.

The funny thing, In the Early days with the Oaks, because of Joe William or Duane would be the lead in the song, until Dream On was released was Richard's time to shine.

So the highest note in his chest voice was a G#4 and the lowest was an A1. Nice!

Cash is not a bass singer. Baritone naturally. People who imitate him and try to sing as low as they can are not doing it right.

This sure doesn't sound like the early '70s Stamps to me (when Richard was with them). Are we sure about this?

I am positive, certain without any doubt that is Richard Sterban singing bass. No idea when, where, or who else participated.

Richard Sterban undoubtedly sings very well and flawlessly, but there's something in Johnny Cash's voice, I don't know what, that I can identify among thousands of other voices and that no other singer can replace.

Cash was a baritone. Baritones are common than basses and its easier to replace.

Very nice! I've missed your content. Have you seen the love performance Cash did in Vegas? He had some solid lows in the first octave, some of the clearest I've heard from him.

He seemed to have many years to develop his rich deep bass. It was only later he got deeper. But I’m glad he didn’t try to go too low. His voice seemed appropriate for the Oak’s songs. Obviously not nearly at JD’s level. But that’s quite ok. Thank you Con Rar for kindly for putting this evolution together. Very cool!!
