Some friends and I met Mike at the bar in Idyllwild the day he did this. He was so stoked (as he should've been!). I just found out he fell while soloing Illusion Dweller in Joshua Tree, and I can't think of a more poetically apt name for his last climb in this realm. The brightest lights truly burn the fastest. My condolences to his family and all those that knew him.

Just a few months ago I met Michael at Tahquitz while my partner and I were in between climbs. We hung out and talked for awhile. Super nice guy as well as an awesome climber. Such a tragedy to be gone so young. My thoughts are with all those that knew and loved him-I'm sure there were many.

At 5:03 I realized that I will NEVER free solo anything. There is nothing on this planet that would make me traverse those 10 feet. And it's well within my capabilities. The training of mental fortitude that you and other soloists do baffles me. You did it! You can solo and conquer the mind. But, why continue to take the risk after achieving the accomplishment?

Is the continuity off? Looks like a lot of jumps between Coffin Nail and Open Book. But maybe you did Coffin Nail, El Camino, and Open Book. It's hard to know. I am like, he's one Coffin Nail. No, wait, he's on Open Book. Wait that's the crux of Coffin Nail! LOL!

I guess I will just never understand this. Why not use ropes to cover your ass in the event of something out of your control? The rock your grabbing or standing on is already too stressed and breaks off. Or you slip on sand or dirt? I don't get it.

I can't believe you only have 13 subs. The video was quite well done for your first effort on KZitem. Must be hard to climb with balls that big :) I'm actually not a big fan of watching people free solo, makes my a-hole pucker up too much. Especially that face traverse at 5:20. I recently saw "The Alpinist" and watching Leclerk solo rotten ice and rock was literally nerve racking, I couldn't sleep after.
