Brilliant, thanks. You saved me a fortune. Quite an easy job to do with the motor in situ.

Thanks. I'm doing in situ also. The only bit I'm concerned about is releasing the brushes afterwards. Is there room to get at them?
@RichardOzanne
Жыл бұрын
@@adamandlorraine Yes. It helps if you have a small mirror so you can see where to push the brushes in the release them, but space-wise I didn't find it a problem.

Although built to price, I really love it when equipment is built to be repaired. I bought a spare motor for a W961 because it seems the original one in my 1999 vintage machine is starting to develop bearing issues (belt tension?). This video helped me check the brushes of the spare motor. Sure enough, one of the brush holders wasn't installed properly. Now I can also inspect and refurbish the original motor.

Hi Peter, our Miele washing machine is showing F53 fault! I've looked on Google and KZitem but found varying answer's! Have you any idea what it could be? Could it be the brushes? if so are they pretty easy to replace? When we bought it I also bought a 10 year guarantee, we've just gone into our 11th year typical eh. Money is short right now so I'm hoping that I'll be able to rectify it until we can afford another!

You don't need to pull out the motor nor do you turn over the machine on its side. Just open the front panel and rest on your knees.

Thank you for this great video! Actually I have a W162 (Vitality W100 Toploader) which needs a replacement of the carbon brushes. I think I bought it 2000-2002. so do you think capacitors needs to be replaced? Main problem: after the Programm the opening position (top) can’t be find or the fixation doesn’t work properly. Do you think it’s a problem of the brushes or of the fixation unit? See kzitem.info/news/bejne/uWuXroxpnIh8fW0

This is definitely caused by a problem with the fixation unit.

Hi. After watching this, I thought it looked relatively simple. I bought genuine Miele replacement brushes. I read elsewhere that you access the motor by putting the machine on its side and removing the base. This thing is impenetrable. I have removed the top, loosened the front in order to remove the sides and the machine is now on its side on a towel. That base still doesn't look like it comes off. I can't see any bolts or screws that hold it on. I'm feeling pretty stupid now and wish I'd just paid someone. Is there a guide anywhere which actually shows how to get to the motor? Thanks.

Alex Williams Hi Alex, I don't know where you read this, but I guess this was about another brand. Every Miele has a fixed bottom. Putting the machine on its side should be done very carefully and only on its right side to prevent damage to the drainage system. The easiest way to access the motor is from the front while the machine stands upright. You only have to remove the front panel.

Thanks Peter. I read it in a comment on the product page where I ordered the genuine Miele brushes. I have learned the hard way that you are right though!!!

Hi Douglas. Hats off to you for finding it easy. I've got the top and the sides off and have the machine on its side. I was told you access the motor through the base and can replace the brushes without removing the motor. I'm flummoxed. Can't see how on earth the base comes off. What's the secret? It appears to be a very well kept one :)

With the machine in place I removed the kick plate, and opened the front of the machine (3 torx screws at upper left, 3 bolts behind the door), and that gave me access to the motor from the front. It took some lying down on the floor, squirming around and a decent flashlight! If you've got your machine on its side, be careful when opening the front of the machine - heavy + electronics and wires. Then, there's a plastic cover over the assembly (which I guess is not shown in this video) - you have to unplug the three wiring connectors (which is where he's testing the circuit here), remove a couple of torx screws (if I recall) and it pulls off with some effort to get it around things like bumps and wires. Then you're at the start of this video. Reaching in under the machine and pulling off the brush assembly, and then putting it back on once replaced, is not that hard. Just takes some cautious fiddling. I accidentally pulled off the front panel of the assembly first - no big deal. Worth looking inside and seeing the various pins, resistors and caps that are mentioned elsewhere here. Also, after the assembly is re-installed you have to release the brushes. If you practice doing this before reinstalling, it's pretty straightforward. The brush catches with a little nub that you can feel for, and then press against with a small screwdriver.

Peter Stuart I sure did, thanks. It took me an age to work out how to get to the motor. If I had to do it again, I'd do it in a fraction of the time. Anyone reading this - you only need to remove the front to access the motor. Once I got that far, your video was a massive help. Cheers.

Hi Peter, I have WT945 and I have problem with flashing "Spulen" light. I got 23 ohms ("free" state - no rotating) between 3rd and 4th on brushes. Is it regular value? I don't know how to solve this flashing "Spulen" problem... Brushes are OK - it's about 2-2.5 cm length.
@pawstuart

Brushes seem to be alright (8mm is absolute minimum!). Resistance should be somewhere between 3-10 ohms.Try new measurement after rotation. Motor problems are very rare in this model. More probably an electronic problem (EL140-A), see youfixit.eu/en/miele-pcb-el140-el150-repair.html

Duidelijk, thanks. Heb ze toch vervangen want het schild lag er toch af. Moeten de borstels inlopen? M'n W715 kan niet goed opschakelen naar maximaal toerental, hij blijft hangen bij 1200 ipv 1400 heb ik het idee.

Because that's the easiest part: just leave the motor in the machine! The only reason we dismounted the motor is because it's too dark to film inside the machine.

I thought i should point this out for everyone attempting to do this on their own.. there is a brass pin on one of the screw holes which needs to be put back into place as it can easily fall off when removing the brush holder from motor.. it has not been mentioned here but its quite important as it can just fall off and you would not even notice... its a brass type small pin which has contact with a blue resistor
