There is a much easier and more precise way of doing a layered haircut. Especially on long hair. Cut your guide lengths for desired bang length and the nape length. Part in the middle all the way from front hairline to nape. Comb each section forward towards the face. Have client lean all the way forward until the BACK of their head is PARALLEL with the floor. Comb and smooth hair forward, then cut everything in between those two guide points. When they raise their head, the layers are even!

Wow this is the only video where I seen this state board cut completed like in 15 minutes this is awesome 👏🏾 Question: what happens during the other remaining time left if given 35 minutes to complete the cut? Also do you have to elevate with the razor for the 2023 cuts ? Thanks
@cynholloman3289
Жыл бұрын
I do not elevate for the razor, and it takes a bit Longer in person, I cut the boring parts out and sped it up. But you can finish quickly, what I tell my students is spend the time in check mode!! Cross cross and take your time here, but the pressure of not finishing up the cut is gone.

I am taking my NIC test again in Idaho after taking my test in Oregon, I have read several comments saying this would be okay to use. I learned the Aveda way which is similar with the 3 subsections but vertical instead of horizontal. Universally at the NIC exam do they just want to see and know that you understand subsections and that you have a uniform haircut? This one is great and I would love to use it.

I’m in school in Maryland now. Take my state board in a few months. My teacher showed us this cut today and it was so difficult. This video really made it so much easier!! But she told us it was six sections and she cut it differently…I love this video and technique so much better but would I be allowed to do this instead of the way I was taught in school??

Yes , absolutely!! You cut it your way! I did the barber crossover and when I tested my instructor told me I HAD to use this old looking razor. I switched it out when he wasn’t looking . It’s just some instructors like you to do things their way. I always say what works for you is best. I wish I could show you a better way to cut… I have made small adjustments to this cut. Always read your states cib from PSI and folllow those rules to the T!!

Tennessee says that you have to "incorporate " a razor during the cut. It isn't specific about it. I think I'll just establish a baseline and move to scissors. Tennessee also uses PSI. I think Texas does too. They are similar with a few variations.

Yes we use PSI as well. And same about using the razor, as long as it’s incorporated somewhere.

I just graduated in sept and learning the “state board cut” was... a struggle for my class. We got taught 2 different cuts from 2 diff teachers and told they were both 90 degree cuts. Then we all talked about it with the teachers and they decided well have s day specifically to learn the cut and we can video tape since it was so close to our graduation times. A week later we hear that, again that cut we were shown was wrong. So i kinda gave up trying to learn it from my school and THIS helped me so much. Like, got rid of 50% of my anxiety bc now I actually know what a 90 degree cut is. THANK YOU

Hi! I’ve always struggled with the 90 hair cut for the top part with the way that my teacher teach me. Do you know if this hair cut can be use for California stateboard exam? My teacher has always taught me to start from the back section and use razor for three sections from bottoms up and after use scissors for the rest and she said stateboard will accept her way but I’ve seen other people from different school done the hair cut differently so I am confused.

There is no right of wrong on how to achieve the 90 degree....Rules for Texas: as long as its blended, razor on perimeter, and 1 inch off( basically on the floor).....just get there, and what you feel is easy for you. When I have a student that struggles on the 90, I will cut it, then at state board they just have to follow my cut.
