This is the best Grateful Head documentary yet! Master editing. It takes us from the street, with a gatekeeper of wisdom, to the Dead Lot, to the show. It's just like being there again. Walking through the perimeter of guitarists and vendors, to then enter the drum circle. Which then leads past more vendors and, finally, to the band itself. Recognizing people from the '89 tour is a heartfelt bonus. Especially the piano player, Johnny, at ~54:00. I would listen to and watch him play hundreds of times at the Pike Street Market, where I was vending apples and almonds for a few years.

Nothing like this will ever be replicated. That certain generation got to reel in all the good years, and we’re left with all the footage. Only thing us young folk have over these original deadheads is time.

0:58 That's "Diamond" Dave Whitaker. Knew him in San Fran, he'd introduce my band (Bomb) and many bands, with a poem and quick praise for the band. He turned Bob Dylan on to pot. Dylan turned the Beatles on to pot. He'd be 85 now in 2024 and still around I think. I know he was alive 2 years ago.

I just started going back in time and trying to remember what true freedom was like before life got hectic w wife, kids, business, etc. (Love my wife and kids)I only got to see em around a dozen times. All I can say is how thankful I am to witness that circus.watching the energy flow out of everyone at rfk 93 and called althea down on the field with a dude and his girlfriend from Maryland that smoked me out w some strait out sk1. Hopefully them Maryland folks remember that too. Thanks boys for the one and only experiences that the luckiest humans on earth got to witness. Still a hippie Gipsy at heart. Forever stamped

I was a bit young so I didn’t get on the bus until 92 but wow what a ride. I know people say I didn’t get to see the Dead in their prime and I agree but the 26 times I saw them which 20 or those were in 95 but they all meant the world to me and Dayz Between is as good of a song that Hunter and Garcia wrote in my opinion. I love all their music. Blessed to have seen what I saw.

love the song at 14:00 mins anyone know what it is called, gave searched using bits of the lyric but can't find it. might be an original from this lovely guy??? really warmed my heart.
Barely made it 10 minutes in. There seems to be quite a few of these documentaries on deadheads. Most of them just seem to focus on stereotypes, and only filming the lowest hanging fruit. Deadheads are so much more than just the parking lot scene...

The most often asked and self serving question at rainbow gatherings and dead shows, is this your first show. People would ask just so they could say how many they have been to in order to flaunt some sort of social status and show how dedicated they are.

I dont like to talk ill of people who are dead and sorry to his friends but Fast Eddie and the Wrecking crew were really tiresome to deal with. Im sure hes in this somewhere, he ALWAYS popped up. I even saw him on comedy central one time, no shit.

thank you Brian. This is so wonderful. not many cameras around 85`-89 I remember in the parking lot at Buffalo ` 87 or `88 someone pulled out a camera and people freaked out. putting their hands in front of their faces - yelling `dont do that man...` some of them probably needed anonymity. there always rumors going around the feds were undercover as deadheads taking pictures. could be true who knows. could you imagine now hahah. so glad there were people like you.

I love watching and listening to people play music. Even if the guitar is out of tune, or they aren't great, it's still nice to see. Most of these musicians are playing from the heart and it shows.

i got on the bus in Philly, 1982, 155 shows up to Tampa 1995, including Vegas and Orlando-Miami 1994. By the 90's the scene was corrupted and there were alot of runaways, and hard drug users. RIP Jerry I love you🙏🙏🙏🙏
