VICSEED Tesla Phone Mount on Amazon should work well for mounting the control head. Works great for my iPhone and for my Uniden R8 radar detector.

Thanks for the great ideas. I have several questions for you as I try to diagram your installation our. Does the plug in the Tesla connect to the input of the Buck, and the output charge the LifePro battery? Or, does the Buck go between the Lifepro Battery and the Radio? I'm driving myself crazy here. Thanks

The buck goes between the Tesla Cig plug (which is between 15-16.8v ) and the LiFePo battery. It is set to have 13.8v output constant voltage and to keep the buck from overheating, set at constant current of 1amp. So when the battery gets full the current tapers off to zero. hope that makes sense

SO FM VHF looks ok wonder how EMI would effect 80 - 160 meters.SSB in that car? Especially a powerwall and panels up on a roof? Hows AM reception?

How is the quality of the reception/transmission?

It all depends on the antenna. It works quite adequately with the whip shown. Altho it does have a bit of whine at certain highway speeds and crosswinds. I have a smaller 1 foot antenna that does not radiate as well but is much quieter. It works well enough to receive the WX stations and work local repeaters in the county.

John, could provide a wiring diagram for buenno battery and Drok booster? In video I see some small box attached to the battery, then it looks like Drok is mounted on the dry box itself. What is that small box attached to the battery? I looked at the battery at buenno web site, it has just wires coming out.

I'm mounting TYT MD-9600 in my Model S. I'm using the buck/boost adapter set to 13.6 volts and works fine. Why did you add another lithium battery? After installing it, I discovered a tag on power cable that said "13.6 Volts DC +15%. Perhaps I don't need the buck/boost device.

Thanks. I have been thinking if there was a way to install an FTM400XDR or an IC-7100 into an MYLR. I am still waiting for my MYLR. How long is your antenna?

Great video! In my experience with the Model 3, the RFI from the motor is so bad that 2meters is unusable. I also like to listen to the air-band, and this is also unusable due to RFI across the spectrum. I hope the Model Y has better shielding from the motor/inverter assembly!

Great job there Jon on installing in your Model Y. I have a 2015 Model S and your install gave me a few ideas on installing in my Model S. 73.....

Hello Jon, many thanks for this comprehensive explanation! I am planning to install my radio in the model Y, so great tips from you. Did you consider to install the head set in the middle console (und the sliding cover)? Would make a nice clean install and when the cover is closed, the radio becomes invisible 😅. 73 de OE3NFC/ Norbert
