I had a book-series and this story was told in one of it. Two old ladies who visited that palace and were surprised to join a party of king Louie 14th. When they came back the next day, they found the castle like a ruïne. A very unbelievable story, but also very mysterious. True or not, nobody knows for sure.

RIP Brods. So many great songs that recall a period when Australians not only made things but were proud of who we were warts and all. And even more, a great time for Aussie musicians before we became bland

Broddie, a National Treasure, singer/songwriter and played a mean harmonica! First saw you with your band, Carson at Q Club at the Kew Civic Centre in the late 60s. A guy who could sing a quiet ballad with a snarl and a growl in the same song! One of the best memories, you doing Ocean Deep at the Andy Durant Memorial Concert and in later times with Patience Hodgson duet on Rockwiz, Time to Pretend.A unique talent, sadly missed.

Here is the story that I heard some years ago Two ladies needed holidays The driver took them for a trip to Paris Up Eiffel Tower and River Seine And from the coach they saw the Palace of Versailles Where King Louis was named 'Sun' No need for a guide, they wanted to be on their own Could take them hours but oh what fun Oh Versailles! Now as they looked at paintings of that King and Queen They found themselves locked in a room When suddenly one painting moved just like real "Don't tell a lie!", he said, "don't move!" But the two Ladies couldn't help but noticing Under the frame there was a hole Above the stairs they could hear some sweet music A giant place where they all sang Versailles! The King and his music! Couperin! Lully! De la Lande! Charpentier! Altogether! Will you believe me when I tell you that they were Expecting the invitation? The dance was faster than they felt, but no fear With a show like this you just got one But at the windows at the age-old stables Some lackeys were buzzing around The horses ready for a ride with stagecoach. The music stops, here is the Sun King, oh! Versailles! Teacher! teacher! teacher! You don't tell all the truth Or if it was like this, you got to tell all the end No, no... Teacher! teacher! teacher! You don't tell all the truth Or is if it was like this, you got to tell all the end Tell all the end... OK! I'll tell you And just the story that I heard some years ago Two ladies needed holidays...

I remember watching Brod interviewed about this song in 1981. He said then that the chorus was at least partly ironic. He said "Lucky to be an Australian? Well, kind of lucky..."
