What has gone nearly extinct already is the revival harpsichord -- as far as I know, only J. C. Neupert is making them, but several makers used to exist, and judging from the recordings I have heard, those are not the best ones (sound kind of tinny).

The bit about their extinction isn’t quite right I think. There are quite a few builders building on a historical model both in Europe and in the United States. I would consider being apprentice, but that would require a full schooling in the business, not just the making itself. Perhaps the apprentice should be sent to the museums in Edinburgh, Brussels and to Colonial Williamsburg to get some good insights. And there are more places apprentices could visit to do research - museums are a great start.

Sadly, I think in the 2070's, there will be mostly no mechanical instruments like this, mostly digital...

I also would like to build one. I found that there is a youtube video ;building a virginal troubadour harpsichord, zuckermann. They also sell a book at the zuckermann harpsichord website. It costs $ 65. I am thinking of buying it.

the last sentence is a good incentive for him to produce one book and catalog every step of the process with pictures and measurements

I acquired a Sperrhake Harpsichord and need to have some of the jacks and plectras replaced. Is it possible to get parts for this instrument of the 60's? Steven Sopha-San Diego

Am glad to see others doing this. I built several myself (as well as organs) and had a lot of fun doing this sort of handiwork. Thanks for sharing.
