The best thing is that 61's is an ALF Century Series engine, which are the best in the business (learned to drive fire engines on one).

I'm sure your read what this was about. There was a two feet of snow on the ground outside the museum so I decided to fiddle around with my new camera and software to see how to use it. I was all alone so I was the lone actor and producer. Surely you understood that.
Looks like an American LaFrance from the side view.

Cool. This reminds me of the time we had a field trip to the science and technology museum and they had a real functioning fire engine cab with lights and full sirens and horns. Best time ever!!

Thanks for your very kind words. This of course honors the very tough firefighters of the 60s and 70s who were on the front lines while the world around them was burning. Great guys! Special memories!

Al Kirchner has lovingly assembled the finest personal fire museum I have ever been privileged to visit. When you sit in a captain's chair at the round "sitting room" table, smell the aroma of hose drying in the hose tower and the soot of the last "worker" coming from the bunker coats near the apparatus, etc. it takes you back to mid-century "old school" firefighting in Chicago. All of this from the Kirchner home in the Eastport neighborhood of Annapolis, MD. From one firefighter to another .....thank you. Well done. Steve Souder, 09-07-17

This was a little vignette I did by myself at the museum in Annapolis, Maryland just to get an idea of what could be done and to create a chance to learn how to use the video editing software. It's not a real response. Engine 61 was taken out of service on December 3, 2005.

Al, What an amazing job you have done but I would not of expected anything less from a person such as yourself. You have done the fire service an amazing job of recreating our history to share with our younger brothers and sisters. Our profession was built on traditions and molded by persons of character. I only have one complaint when I saw the recreation I had a "flashback" and started to get up and make coffee for the senior members. Thank you for sharing this with us. Gary Palmer Jr.

Asked his youngest daughter of Ben Suzuki-san whether she or her son was familiar on you just for the case I might try to realize this info to Ben-san and to his grand-son who is currently working at the fire services there at Iwakuni MC base. Of course, my main target is for Ben-san to remind him of his unyielding spirit, and for his grand-son's appreciation and respect to your past distinguished superintendent. I hope they have been informed on your civil fireofficer time. Al-san, thank you again, and well take care! Kazu

Mr. Kirchner, Superb! Super attention to detail. I especially like: starting out with a photo of Commissioner Quinn … the photos of the houses across the street … the completeness … the picture of Chief Volkamer … Dragnet on the TV … Typewriter … The USMC welcome matt … the CFD forms … the box cards … the gloves and helmet on the radiator … the pictures of “hisshonor” … the Fire and Thrill show poster … the night photos … and the backing in scene. God bless! JK

Al, you have made it finally, which is to be appreciated by all the fresh men with respect, and myself is so happy to say "HI" to Com. Quinn, and Chief Volkamer as well. And I am sure there is no boarder for any fire services. Their duties being so complicated and over-loaded like PRO-CON at IAFC Open Forum, but all will be encouraged everyday as your people used to do it. Once again, excellent job! Kazu Yamamoto

CHIEF KIRCHER THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE RESTORATION JOB THAT YOU DID ON THIS EDUCATION CENTER. IT REMINDS ME OF GOING TO SEE MY GREAT GRAND FATHER AT HIS CFD HOUSE. I CAN REMEMBER JUST STARING AT THE CALL TAPES & LISTENING TO THE ENGLESIDE CALL OUTS AS A CHILD IN THE EARLY 60'S. YOU DID THIS SO PERFECT FROM THE FOLDING DOORS, DRAFT HOSES, AF BELL AND CIVIL THE .DEFENSE BOX.. EVEN THE "BOSS" MAYOR DAILY STUFF. I HOPE THE CHILDREN THAT WILL BECOME FUTURE FIRE FIGHTERS ADMIRE YOUR PLACE AS MUCH AS WE LOVED THE STATIONS GROWING UP & AS AN ADULT. KEVIN---*
