Wonderful !!! This is a definitive version of this song. The most beautiful. I do not trust Beth Gibbons interpretation. She wants to sing like Nina Simone, and the same time, she has got a wonderful WHITE voice. Plenty of pure crap she serves. She must be or over apologetic towards sort of black 'culture', as most of English stupid people are these days...silly ... or she has got split personality.

It was recorded at The Forum in Waterford, Ireland. I don't think there is a better version, he done one one bbc I think for that Scottish bird but this is the bomb. I was there and everything looks the way it was. He wasn't living to far away and I'm sure this is the same gig. His son was playing with him at the time.

Wow - what a stunning version. Absolutely sublime.
I wonder why it sounds like there’s laughter @1:28? Maybe it was just the synth

Probably the best version of this I've heard. A crossover between the indie-pop of Portishead and definitive sound of John Martyn, a jazz-pop if you like.

Listening to him now on RTE radio , Late Date show. They've played two songs in succession. I saw him play a few times on the London Folk Scene in in the 60's a few times. Loved those gigs, small venues and very intimate too.
