My involvement with History and Antiquities especially American - caused me to instantly recognize Brittany in the styles of music during colonization of America , my family worked for George Washington's Continental Army and there was many musical influences that came from abroad. I believe Brittany could play just any Appalachian bluegrass how much more as time progresses.

I loved your playing Brittany, with your sister, but tell your video producer Greg Liszt to learn how to add some light to the foreground and ignore his exposures from the surroundings, an overcast day, and buy a better microphone.

I've been learning this tune on mandolin. It fits surprisingly well under the fingers in spite of the unusual key and all the weirdness.

Natalie is one of my heroes. I'm a classical cellist, but I grew up listening to Celtic music, and a cello can add sooo much depth. I haven't found a local Celtic music jam yet, but it's definitely something I'd have a blast at.

Yeah, I'm not even a musician but I think her skill and creativity are awesome. And her sister Brittany can sure play that fiddle too !

Pretty sure you could pull off a cello at a jam group if you learned how to improvise over I-IV-V tunes or take the melody, play like the bass or drone chords 'til the break comes around and get off to the races. You could at the very least pull it off without being a nuisance, the sound of a cello blends quite well. Don't know much about picky bluegrassers but old time groups might appreciate the novelty, long as it sounds good.

@@zachb8012 Classical musicians tend to be awful at improvisation, except for the *really* good ones. I haven't had a lot of practice, and it's definitely a skill I'm going to need to work on. It's kind of sad, really - traditionally, the cadenza in a concerto was an opportunity for the soloist to improvise, but today even the cadenzas have calcified into fixed forms.

@@rachelandeen You might be terrible at improvisation in like the jazz or classical sense, but in the context of a jam you might be over thinking it. I play notes from the mode and hope it sounds good, trying build up or down to the right note when the tune turns around. Not that I'm good at it either but there's no coherent thought going through my head. Plus you could just play the melody, you don't have to improvise. My point is the bar is pretty low if you want to goof around at a jam, if that's what gets you playing music it's a good thing.

The really amazing thing to me is that they are not just playing this (brilliantly), but they composed and arranged it themselves ! It's like "Wow !"

I love evertything about this video. The time of year, the time of day, the gloom, the warmth of a sweater in fall, the beautiful historic houses in view. All capped off with a beautiful and hauting performance by the Haas sisters. Thank you for this. I come back often to re-experience this. I can't wait to see your Wintergrass perfomances in a month!
