I dont like it when ppl try to humenized those characters and blur the lines between good and bad. Peter did to this boy and gf what his father did to him. He was weak. Instaid of taking his exprience with his dad and promise himself he will not be like him he will not hurt anybody he chose to be evil. We humans have a choice. We always do. Im dont feel sorry for ppl like him. i will never feel sorry for no killer or a rapist just because they have had bad things happening to them. I dont care.. the moment you chose to be bad to be evil that is all you are and all you will ever be. I know Oliver JC was sexual abused himself repeatedly so that scene kinda made me wonder what part of it he was not really acting. I dont know what actually happend to him, I hope he wasnt fully raped but still i feel bad for him its horrible especially for boys and men. It kills the soul.

"Everybody has something" 😅 Gee thanks for the vote of confidence, Jensen. How about most people are perfectly fine and it's capitalistic consumerist culture that's the problem, the ongoing destruction of the natural habitat?

i mean a problem is problem no matter how big it is - so, not everything is a big problem or an issue i agree on that but you can't possibly guess how something takes a toll on someone.

You can love a character even if they're a villain! Some don't understand that. I went from liking him to loving him to hating him in end, but I LOVED the performance. He had a rough life. The mother scene is horrible. But he killed his girlfriend and tried stealing a little boy's life. Are those things understandable given his circumstances? Absolutely. Awful though. Also he killed the housekeeper. That one has no justification. I love complex characters though. I much prefer him as a villain than the lake lady.

People hate on Steve for legitimate reasons. For me, his biggest moral failure was not telling his wife he'd had a vasectomy when they (or at leasr she) was trying to get pregnant. That is inexcusable. It's a hateful act on someone he loved, but rationalized using his Mother's mental illness. However, we see how attentive and loving he was at Hill House. He took his role as the big brother seriously and with compassion. I think he is instinctuallly good, but the trauma of his mother's death pushed him into a more cynical view of the world. Luke's relapses certainly didn't help. I say this as the "Luke" in this situation who luckily has three older brothers and an exceptional sister. Steve is deeply flawed, but trying. I think that is what resonates most for me.

Born a human, made into a monster, died a monster and then finally left this earth as a human again. Just goes to show that no one is born a monster, they are made into one and yet still have the capacity to make free choices later in life - unfortunately it's not an easy thing to do - as is shown with Peter who took the easy way out. That final confrontation with his mother is heart-breaking when all is finally revealed about him and his childhood, you truly feel for him and yet it does not excuse the choices he made as an adult.

Thank you so much for this masterpiece I loved Peter from the first he’s so underrated the amount of pain he was forced to endure was insane I know he and Jamie are supposed to be foils and it works but it also shows What someone who had a loving family before going into foster care vs someone who was horrendously abused by their father who also used them as bait to get more young kids to come over His mother also knew everything and blamed Peter for his father going to jail And then had the audacity to blackmail him with his trauma for money

Hey just wanted to say this was a beautiful, and very thematically satisfying edit, with wonderful music choice! I think I especially loved the last third of the edit, in just how the overlaid audio matched so perfectly with the visuals, but it was altogether so cohesive and well thought-out, I feel like this'll be one I go back and rewatch often, thanks for making it :'D!

He is so much broken, tortured, betrayed and struggling to lead a normal life because of his father's deeds. His father killed many strangers with out any reason, but the most brutal murder he did was killing his own son's heart, his innocent childhood, his mental health and totally his life. Above all these he keeps manipulating his son to believe that he is same like his father. He is a very terrible father.

Yeah exactly! As much as I love watching him act he's a terrible father. Whitley and everyone around them put everything on Malcolm. He fucked with his mind so much that Malcolm became someone with severe problems. A heart-breaking but great story.

Wow...I literally cried when I finally understood this...question. Is the man possessing the boy or is the boy possessing the man? When you watch this you get the impression that Peter is the bad guy so you go with that assumption, but this isn't about good or bad...the boy is not bad. He's innocent...he's good. If the boy possesses the man then he's the one projecting himself as a grown man to escape the trauma of his boyhood. The boy seeks refuge in the grown man. It's the boy that kills him. The past is haunting the adults...Part of why Peter and Rebecca fall in love is because they are the little kids who we think are alive. Sounds weird they would "fall in love" because they are brother in sister, but in spirit form, that's not true so they can embody the "lovers". Peter and Rebecca connect because they are "kindred spirits". When Peter says "You called me" to his mother, it's the boy addressing the mother. And like a little kid, he argues "I'll be rich one day so I can leave"...the mom is speaking to his future when she says "you're not rich now are you", she's cursing him, putting a hex on his future so he's bound to carry this inferiority complex (wonder inner child) wherever he goes....wow very deep series...

Wow that's a really odd interpretation and wrong in a few ways. Peter and Beccs fell in love before they died, that's quite apparent by the show showing us they are in love before they died. Not so much after Peter forced her to die by using her body. Also Peter is the villan, he's abusing a little boys body like his father abused his when he was younger. He's just continuing the cycles of abuse. When Peter says "you called me" to his mother he means she called him on the telephone to meet, and he naively thought she wanted to meet to apologize for letting his father abuse him all the time and saying it was basically Peter's fault that he was abused. Then she told Peter to do the scheme of stealing Henry's money to pay her off to not speak about his past. Miles didn't kill Peter, if anything his mother killed him. If he didn't steal that money he wouldn't have tried to run away and would most likely still be alive. That's why he says to his mom "how does it feel to know you killed your boy?" And she says "I don't even know you're dead", she says this because he's dream hopping but stuck in the one dream that ruined it all for him, like his own personal hell while others can have nice dreams. As for the mom cursing Peter's future by saying "you're not rich now are ya?" .... what?? Lol that's just her trying to belittle Peter, it's an abusive tactic to try and get people to do what you want, like getting Peter to steal Henry's Money to pay her off.
