Hi Darren, I went through the old SVA test with my Eagle 2+. It failed on the first attempt but passed on the second; it was a nightmare. I do find the current IVA test quite bizarre and impractical as the testers know that as soon as you get the car home, you are going to swap everything out. Of course they need to check that the car is safe but some of the things that you have to do, just for the test, are stupid. Take a normal car. You could swap the steering wheel for some cheap and dangerous rubbish and there is nothing that the DVLA will do about that. On one of your videos, you mentioned that a catalytic converter needed to be added to the exhaust. I cannot remember the date of that video but you did not mention it in this video. As everyone else has said, it was a very useful and informative video; thank you. You have gone to great lengths to design such a wonderful car and, in addition, how to get it through the dreaded IVA test.

Thank you for your kind comments. The catalytic converter comes as standard on the Tipo184 exhaust. It is a legal requirement. The IVA test has always been controversial. We cannot comment or express opinion only offer guidance in getting your Tipo 184 through the test and the information may be useful for other self build vehicles.

Then why not buy a Tipo 184 kit & put an Alfa engine in your Tipo 184?

What a machine love it! Is it a RHD or LHD?
@wfidrock

Well, you sit in the center!! But the kit is based on the UK Miata MkII (i.e. in USA a NB Miata) and therefore the steering rack is a RHD. Those of us building the kit in the US sourced a RHD steering rack from the UK and had to modify our LHD front subframe accordingly - cut off two brackets, switch positions and reweld the brackets to the front subframe.

the only thing I don't love about this build is the fact it tries to fake how many cylinders it has. Why not just embrace what it is? Also wish I had known this kit was coming to the US. I hadnt even seen anything about it coming here. Is there an official dealer stateside?

Thanks for the comment. The whole Tipo 184 is a wonderful imagination, so why get hung up on one small part? If we embraced what it is as you say, it would just look like a Miata. Please subscribe to our KZitem Channel & take a look at our website tipo184.com there are updates, news, independent reviews and builders photo gallery. There's also a contact us facility if you want to place an order or just subscribe to our monthly newsletter. Thanks again for taking time to comment on our video.

It is an amazing video. Detail, depth, accuracy. An incredible effort to achieve concise and precise build information. As ex vehicle engineer was enthused immediately of ‘good ol days’. 1970 built Rochdale Olympic 2, however with sensible hat on wondered about homologation? Mud guards and todays ‘cotton wool’ world of health & safety. Thank you, for taking me back- may sales be your reward for a truly worthwhile project thought out and presented impeccably! LUV ANGRY RADIATOR GRILL!

I would lose the weird AI "enhancement" on the voiceover in future. Sounds really creepy. I would much rather it was echoey instead of this weird warbly mess. At 2:46 it garbles the guy's voice so much I can't even understand what he's saying! Great car, though. Really really want one.

Is there a similar fraternity developing here in the U.K.? I’ve loved this since the first time I saw it. Seen it in the flesh at last year’s Classic Car Show at the NEC in both the Red & the Baby Blue liveries. If there’s a newsletter or owner’s club or some other group that has developed would someone please kindly post a link? Thanks & keep up the great work!

If ever Darren considers developing another chassis, I think the idea choice would be the French Talbot-Lago Grand Prix car of the same era; the Alpha and the T-Lago had a long and storied rivalry, and it would be great to see them competing - in perhaps a gentler fashion - on tracks around the globe once again.

Interesting. But and it's an Important 'But' !! This thing is a Sheep in Wolf's Clothing. A Poser Kar no more .. No less. FAR Better off to buy and Restore an MX5..... cheaper, easier and has room for a passenger as well as mod cons like rain protection and heat.

If you register your vehicle and then remove the bodges you used to make it considered safe your vehicle remains registered but is not safe. If you seriously injure someone they will lock you up. I would also question whether your insurance is valid as all modifications post registration should be listed on your insurance policy.

This contradicts the IVA information, it clearly says using lagging and solutions that would not be used by an OEM will not be accepted. The crazy use of these lagging bodges, bits of cut-off hose, push-on trims here won't get approved as far as I understand.

Holy cow I just watched the full build. I'm blown away. This is fantastic. Obviously the older miata parts have been seriously refurbished, making the end result a new car. It's just incredible . . . As the original straight 8 had a supercharger, it would be cool if you offered a supercharger kit too

I came accross this video during a surfing session and am very glad I did... The first thing that grabbed me was the car of course (Gorgeous) and the second was that there was no "Please subscribe" I really don't like that, especially at the start of a video when you haven't seen the quality of it...I will never buy one of these kits unfortunately but watched the whole video to the end and loved to see the car being driven...Having said all that about subscribing, I have done so, because this video and hopefully more like it in the future are what You Tube should be about, not whiney people who demand you like and subscribe to their video, then it has firstly, terrible music and then bugger all content...Well done and a really beautiful car...

How long will it be until we see a new racing class for these stars. These gentlemen have produced a real winner for a new class. Next someone will stick a Lotus engine in it and all will result in costs spiralling and it will be out of reach of the many, so insist on a class with either a maximum engine size or insist only MX5 engines only! Great video, and a pleasure to watch.
