Ray Price was a great player but he WAS jealous of Wally and had the big-time shits when Wally was named Australian captain instead of Price.

As a kiwi kid in the 80s and 90s i was deeply scarred by Wally and the kangaroos and I hated them, with a passion. Now I'm older I cannot overstate how much I respect Wally now. I love a man who calls a spade a spade.

Went to many origins at lang park back in the day, Ive watched all the origins, i was there for that famous night and try...Wally is still by far the best Ive ever seen...i remember 1 night, he single handedly won the game for Qld...he kicked a conversion from the sideline to win the game in the dying minute, my brother and I were directly in line with it....crowd went nuts and he turned to me and said..i guess that makes him superman !! great memories...

Well how come Wally Lewis walked all over him in the tests from 1982-1988 except game 3 88 and the time he was contacted to Wakefield Trinity with Fatty Paul Vautin did in 1983 and after the Queensland tour that year,I notice after Queensland lost the first game on tour 8-6 to Hull KR and they weren't to keen to replay that game after Queensland belted the sides by huge margins,I have respect for Ellery Handley as a player and to me he was the best England player in the 1980's but better then Wally Lewis no way.

The King _was_ a marked man. Such was his unpredictability that he often drew two markers. They would hang back, unable to read Wally's intentions. Oftentimes Wally would have two clear choices. Keep the ball in hand and barrel towards the line, the markers still letting him be. Or, if one of the markers decided to go for the tackle, Wally would put a teammate into the gap created by the second marker. He was great to watch.

For Ray Price of all people to say that Wally wasn't good enough for football in Sydney is laughable. Consider for a second the fact that the admittedly unfit Queensland five-eighth faced off against the best NSW had to offer and made them look like fucking chumps.

Michael O'Connor should of played for QLD not NSW in Origin watching him play Rugby for QLD then League for NSW showed how much he was hated North of the Tweed even his father hated the fact he went from Rugby to League and QLD to NSW and Michael O'Connor he was nothing on Wally Lewis and the stats to lie. Plus why didn't the Wallabies select him on the Grand Slam tour of 84 before he went league in 85,I'll tell you why because he wasn't good enough anymore.

Ray Price believed that he was entitled to the Australian captaincy simply because he came from NSW and seemed incapable of accepting that someone from Qld could have the qualities to do the job. His constant whingeing about this is in direct contrast to Wally Lewis's great sporting gesture of carrying Price from the field on his shoulders after Price's last game for Australia, which even Price himself admitted was a great surprise to him. Had the positions been reversed, I very much doubt Price would have been so charitable.
