Nirvana Dragon Boat Drifting
In 2009, Dragon Boat Festival was listed as an UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2017, Diejiao Dragon Boat Drifting was included as Foshan’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Dragon boat drifting happens once a year in Diejiao township, Nanhai, Foshan, China on May 5th Dragon Boat Festival. It’s the most celebrated festival for the local villagers. Although the dragon boat practice has been passed down from the Ming Dynasty for more than 500 years, it’s been evolved from simply peddling on the water for show to now drifting fast and furious. Rather crushed than be slowed, the one and only in the cosmos! There are four races span in 4 days and different villages; 1st day “S” curve at 東勝, 2nd day “C” curve at 潭頭, 3rd day “L” curve at 聖堂, 4th day “I” straight at 茶基. Diejiao, established in 1101 AD, is also home to other National Intangible Cultural Heritages like 茶基十番, 虎鹤双型拳 and 南狮比麟堂.***觀自在…I was blinded but now I see…Mercy! Mercy!
