Great progress but this isn't very informative. How often did you go on ice per week? How long were your lessons, and how many hours were your public skate sessions?

Hii! I wanted to ask a question. I'm a 13 year old Who has a backround in ballet (1 year), yoga (2 years) rollerblading (2 years) swimming (1 year) dancing (2 years) and I've been rollerskating pretty much the whole summer. I also like to workout and do so the entire day while also having a very balanced diet. I'm very flexible and I've been working on my balance. This said, what do your think I could achieve by going to the ice rink 5+ hours a week? (3 group, 1 alone, off ice training which is offered there and maybe some ice time without a coach). Ty!

That’s crazy! I started staking when I was 18. I’ll be 19 in like a month. And I’m barely getting the hang of cross overs without leaving the ice. I’ve learned the lunge and holy smokes stroking took forever for my right foot. Left foot masters everything almost instantly. Tried jumping from a harness (waltz jump. Wow I hate the harness). I was only able to skate 2 times a week for 1 hour a week total. Now that I’m free during summer I’m doing about 4 hours almost everyday (2 hours in the morning and 2 at night). I’ve only been skating for about 7 months now so it’s nowhere close to yours. For me is mainly the fear factor. For some reason when I know how something feels it scares me more the next time I try to do it and then over think it 🥲. My coach is Tiffany Vise (she was famous for landing the first ever quad throw salchow for women’s pair skating) so she gets mad and puts that pressure of getting better. I also do off ice trainings as well and hit the gym after the rink. My ice sessions start at 4:45am 😅

I’m starting figure skating at age 15 just for fun (I don’t plan to do any competitions because I have anxiety and I can’t handle stress anymore) before this I did ballet, dance, gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling so I have an athletic background and I know what competitions are like and I would rather not do competitions lol. Last week I went ice skating for the first time in several years and I was already able to do regular ice skating and simple turns and tricks without a coach and one KZitem tutorial. I have a few weeks before I start adult classes and I’m pretty excited for it.

how much did you ended up paying per coaching lessons? I saw pricing for $50 for every 30 min session. Since i need at least 3 session a week (I'm a slow learner) for at least an hour a day it would cost me 300 a week or 1200 a month....got expensive so i decided to stop for now since I don't make much at my job....but its good to see how far you got in just 5 months wow :)

My advice would to look at classes/group sessions at your local rink. Usually they rent you some skates until you decide that you’re getting your own. A good thing to remember when starting out is to not get frustrated, falls are a big part of learning and it can be hard at first but as long as you keep at it, you’ll see improvement!

Your video is so inspiring. Could you please let me now how many hours you practice every week on average and how many hours you train with a coach every week? (I assume you are doing 1-2-1 sessions with a coach). Thanks. I am very serious to start learning figure skating from the 2nd half of this year.
@maddieeee3707

I was practicing on ice about 5-6 hours a week, and 1-1/2 hours of that was with my coach, another hour with group lessons. But off ice training (conditioning) is really important to develop the muscles you need to improve technique so I was also conditioning for 1.5 hours a week during the school year and 2-3 hours weekly during summer. I hope that helps!
