Please tie mini-jigs in 1/64 and 1/32 ounce with #8 hooks for stream trout. Are 1/8" cross-cut strips narrow enough for these mini-jig sizes? Thank you. Ron

G'day Mate.. great to see someone else tying bunny fur... I am located in Australia and I have been tying full rabbit fur spinnerbaits for over 12years...I notice how you people in the USA tie your colours and weights specific to water temperature and seasons... In Australia we do not take water temperature seriously enough when tying for differing fish species....That is something I shall have to readdress...I am glade I found your channel tonight and yes I have now subscribed to you... best regards to you mate... can You specify hook size and brand?
@joelsjigs9121
7 жыл бұрын
szycha63 The hook brand is Owner and the size on this one is a 1/0. Many other sizes are usable as well such as the Owner #1 and Mustads #4. You can find the Owners on www.JoelsJigs.com

thank You , what about preferred weights, I think 1/8 and 1/4 ?what colors do You think are best for steelie?
@joelsjigs9121
7 жыл бұрын
szycha63 The weight size will be determined by the water you are fishing and the target species. 1/8 is a good starting point for west coast and some Great Lakes tribs while 1/32 is a good starting point for most other tribs in the Great Lakes region. The season sometimes determines the head size as well. Summer time typically brings lower water flows so a lighter weight is required. colors are also determined by current water, temperature and climate conditions. To say what colors are "good" would really not tell you much in the way of what steelhead like. Summer fish are different than winters, Great Lakes fish are different than California fish, Oregon fish, Washington fish and up in the Canadian waters as well. Water clarity will also be a big determining factor for color as well. All that said it is best to have a range of colors of jigs in your arsenal because one person has blue as a "good" color on their list while the next never uses blue. have a selection of pinks, oranges, reds, blacks to start.

Looks Amazing! I'm just starting out and wondering where i can find some of those hooks. I can't seem to find them without the molded barb thing. If you could give me the name or a website it would help a ton. Thanks!
@joelsjigs9121
9 жыл бұрын
You can find the hooks, raw unpainted jig heads and finished painted ones with our proprietary process on our website at www.JoelsJigs.com. If you are wanting the molds the you can do a simple search in Yahoo or google for them and plenty will pop up. Do-It Molds have the largest and most useful selection. Keep in mind though that if you want a hook like you see here or similar heavier ones all molds will have to be "re-worked" to a certain point to accommodate the larger gauge hook. This is not an easy or quick process. If you have the proper tools and/or Dremel it can be done. It's time consuming and takes a lot of patience because any little slip when doing this will result in the mold being ruined and you have to start all over. We have many many many jig molds and we only use the highest quality and strongest hooks available so every single mold had to be "re-worked". Thanks for watching, JJ

Neat and clean and hopefully catch a fish. Here in BC barbless fishing only and I saw your one has barb. Thanks
@joelsjigs9121

Thanks for watching. The barbless isn't a big deal at all as a simple pinch with pliers will remedy that very easily. Many places up and down the west coast such as BC, WA, OR and CA are barbless and that is what is done with all hooks that are barbed. JJ
