Yep. Bad idea. Broke it worse and now have to replace it. I should have known better when you said to hit it with a hammer. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

I know this is an older video, but my brush can be easily disassembled. The cap with rectangular boss opposite belt end actually unscrews from the rod. Rod slides out through center of brush. Inner bearing held with small c-clip. Note the position of the washers, concave faces away from bearing. I would not lubricate the bearings as dust/dirt will stick to the lubricant. My vacuum is a Hoover EmPower 2:21

Had an Amazon replacement in my cart. Saw this video. Went to the garage, found 2 2x4's and place the square end down in opening between both 2x4's. Took the Hammer and Punch, and after many whacks, the two ends were apart. Cleaned much hair that was entwined on one end. Cleaned other end best possible, then used my trusty WD-40 Specialist Silicon that drys and doesn't stay wet. All good. Thanks So much

I don't really understand how the hitting it works. Do I just smack it with a hammer? How does that make it come apart?

This fixed the turning issue with my vacuum perfectly! I may still need a new belt, but I can return the crappy replacement I got thanks to your video and keep using what I’ve had for years! And now I feel confident I can fix it if this issue happens again!

I was not aware that it was necessary to pop off the ROUND endcap, not the square sided one. Maybe that’s why I have been getting cracked end caps. Though I managed to salvage one end cap with glue and a C-clamp. BTW, I do believe that is a Bissell brushroller you got there.

WD40 is a grease REMOVER! Yes initially it will help and you will think the bearings work great ...but that goes away quite fast! You need to regrease with proper grease like Super8 or something else after you CLEAN with the WD40

Turns out that bearing is meant to stay dry and tackless due to its use in a vacuum. So wd-40 was a perfect application here.

I noticed this when doing another vacuum, I believe you are able to push both sides out, as long as the metal is able to be punched out you should be good 👍

Yours was probably melted and that is why it was immoveable and yoy broke it. Rhey should come off easily. But if a belt starts to wear and smoke it heats that side of rhe roll up making it immovable. His was only stuck with lint ..

Quicker- alternative tip than the video for older vacs ! I sprayed pb blaster on both sides as mine is not able to be opened on the end caps they're ONE piece only. (older vacuum) pb blaster is very slimy so will trump wd40 which is a water repellent. Over time the wd40 will pick up even more filth inside. I left mine there soaking in the pentrating for 10 mins and then spun it BOTH directions per side. Cleaned off the roller bar with paper towel, lysol - put it back and in vacuum; now it sounds like i twin turboed the god damn vacuum. It wants to lift the carpet up haha. So its up to what design you have. Mines an older vac but still works like new.

Great fix. One suggestion- while a part, take fiber seal off bearing and repack with a good quality grease. Seal pops right out with a thin blade. super help- thanks.

Good tip. However, 1. Straight WD-40 is not a lubricant as most believe. It says right on the can “NOT A LUBRICANT” 😉 I’m thinking the use in this video may have been for this purpose, as we all grew up thinking it lubricates, but it does not. It is actually the opposite: It is a solvent used for removing rust and dirt from surfaces which maybe come stuck together. 2. It is never recommended to add any kind of oily residue to “dry use” bearings, because it will only invite and track more dust and dirt to the “lubricant”, which in turn will eventually bind up the bearings inside the bearing case. However, while straight WD-40 might help clean the dirt out and technically as a solvent should “flash off”, WD-40 does make a dry lubricant for lubricating dry run applications! 😎😎👍

If the bearings in the brush got wet due to a wet floor or minor flooding you may be better off replacing them. They are widely used in roller blades, skateboards, and other inexpensive applications. Search online for 608z sealed metric bearings. 8mm id, 22mm od, 7mm thick. Prices are generally less than $1.00 each. Disassemble the shaft as described. The shaft is splined at both ends. Push the shaft out WITHOUT twisting it. You may need a bearing puller to get the old bearings off. Press the new ones on, replace the gray plastic end caps, feeling to engage the splined shaft in the grooves in the cap.

I had a loud wop-wop noise on my power brush. Thanks to your advice I was able to fix it. I was a little wary at first of trying, thinking I'd break it. Had to hit the shaft several times (hammer w/screwdriver) to get the end caps off. There was lots of hair and lint rapped around the bearing. I cleaned, oiled, and tapped the caps back on, and the noise was not there - just smooth operation.
