A tip for anyone doing this- you take off the headband, pull the cord over n remove the other earcup to make it a bit easier. I finished doing it yesterday, thank you! Have never done any DIY thing like this or even soldered before (and it was very aggravating trying to do it here lol- took me like literally 2hrs just on the port soldering!). Couldn't believe it when I finished n it all worked lol.

this is perfect! i just go the aiaiai wireless headphones, and they're ok. but i really like the sound of my dt770 pro 250ohms. i was curious one day and rigged my dt770s to the wireless receiver (headband) of the AIAIAIs and it worked. so now, i wanna try this mod with some dt770 pro 32ohms (power rating of the aiaiai headband...) because the aiaiai headband uses two 3.5mm male cable ends... do you think it will work?

Can anyone let me know if the 3.5mm female jack used here also work with the DT-880, another modding thread in hifiguides forums said it only work with DT-770 as it has doesn't have the black padding in the cup in the DT-880.

Oh man. So this must be the issue with mine. I thought maybe the driver was damaged: maybe the voice coil rubbing. I was investigating buying a replacement pair, but this seems more likely. Honestly not sure I'd buy Beyer again in light of this. They've been making 770's for decades - how is it that this design flaw hasn't been addressed??? I'm very unimpressed.

What's a good soldering iron you'd suggest I buy for this project? Is this an accurate Tool/ supply list of everything I'll need? - Dremel with Sanding bit - Soldering Iron - 3.5 jack (x2) - Wire Cutters - Hot glue gun/glue

Thanks for the vid. Unfortunately I pulled at what I thought was a hair embedded in the driver surface but I think must have actually been one of the voice coil wires because I completely killed the driver! No matter, as you say it was a last resort and I was already resigned to buying a new pair anyway. They lasted over 20 years so they don't owe me anything... But thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has a go, just be sure that the "hair" you're pulling is actually a hair not a wire! The wires are *very* thin and they do look a lot like hairs...

Hi there! First of all, thanks for the tutorial-it was easy to follow, and I'm glad someone is showing off how to do this with a 3.5mm jack. One question I have, though: how can you tell which wire on the drivers is ground? I was assuming that the black wire would be, but I don't want to go on with that assumption and screw up my pair. Thanks!

Yo my right driver stopped working all of a sudden, do you think i permanently damaged the driver or there could be some other issue? I used to listen to music at high volume but never for extended period of times so I'm not sure if the driver is actually burned or not

Hi as I dissembled the headphone, I found no hair but I realize that the rattle is actually caused by the transparent plastic piece (the one that has hair stuck on it), the plastic piece is pretty loose which when a low bass hits, it rattles. Is there possibly a way to fix this?
