yep to have a drum machine you have to charge at least 16 instance of battery :o any idea to have one but split on the piano roll???

I've gotten this to work, which is awesome, however one thing I've noticed is there is still multiple instances of Battery that load essentially. Each chain, although is a chain, when I click to load it (little wrench button) it's a separate instance of that kit as a different chain. So, my snare chain loads battery, but then when I click my kick chain, it also loads a new window of battery. If I add a new sample within battery for the kick chain, it doesn't auto populate that cell in the snare chain's instance of battery. Even if I save the kit both in Battery and Ableton, I have to manually load that same kit with each chain. I'm not sure if that is productive or if I am doing something wrong. Any thoughts? My goal would be to load the standalone of battery without Ableton, build the drum kit I want. Save that kit, then load it into Ableton, however if while in Ableton or even back in battery standalone, if I wish to make a change to that kit, I have to manually load it again for each chain. I was hoping there was an auto update feature I'm not clicking lol.

You can also create a seperate midi track with an empty drumrack on it and have the battery track receive the midi from it. You don't have nice colors but works perfect and with only one instance.

This is a work around to force Ableton to show the instruments/samples names on the piano roll. As per the cpu, Ableton is already cpu inefficient on its own. I dont think they will ever sort this out.

Once you figured it out, you'll save it and just load the Drum Rack in the future. You lose time creating the rack, true, but you will save in the future if you use it a lot.

Thnks for this tip.. However I do wonder if there are any Drum Racks available online where this has been done for the entire Battery 4 Library. This can be a tedious process especcialy when we have 16 or 32 percussional sounds or maybe entire kit which we would like to run through a m4l step sequencer for creating percussional textures.

I couldn't find any other to show the names of the individual samples in the MIDI editor in Ableton. If showing the names is not something you need, you can simply route individual cells from Battery to separate audio tracks as well , to process individually with FXs.

Why don't you route BATTERY 4 Cells to separate audio tracks in Ableton Live? Much easier and you only need to rename the audio tracks! More you will find out here: support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/210306545-How-to-Route-BATTERY-4-Cells-to-Individual-Outputs-in-Ableton-Live

because you only get audio, you can't PROGRAM MIDI. that way for each individual drum. With this method I can create midi ideas in Maschine then drag the individual midi into each drum in the drum rack in ableton or if I have a bunch of midi packs of drums I can drag them into the editor then each midi part can be manipulated. All you get is audio out of Battery and into Live with the method you posted above.

@@musicproductionmadeeasy5027 But it also requires a new instance of battery for each single drum part, which means in your example, you have 4 separate instances of battery, and that takes a lot of CPU power. What if you had a drum section with 8 different elements, it would be more work to have to go to each individual instance of battery to make adjustments to the drums (which battery has so many ways to creatively work with your samples). any thoughts?

@@musicproductionmadeeasy5027 You have to drop Battery into Drum Rack, then open up the I/O and change the notes it receives to "All". Then you can make chains for every useable note and rename them, as well as change the colors so they're distinguishable with Push. The only cons are that you can't map samples to different notes through Drum Rack (only in Battery) and you can't audition the Drum Rack cells with the mouse for some reason (though it works just fine with MIDI, musical typing, Push, etc.)
