IMO the main issue with the barrel is not being cleaned properly, and that can be fixed.

I've seen the results and used a pressure fire lapping kit with great results. Could be an easy fix for a barrel in that condition.

I built a lower for my Mk116 mod1. I couldn’t find their stripped lower in stock or a parts kit. You have any ideas besides PWS?

My barrels look like this after 200 rounds. It needs a really good cleaning. Lots of carbon

That barrel wasnt worn out. Hell the rifling is fine. Theres next to no erosion at the gas block entrance.

Are you looking at the same barrel we are? Especially considering the gas port, that looks like a reasonably low round count. Needs to be cleaned, that for sure.

Good vid. Always good to see how barrels fare. That firecracking is completely normal. Has nothing to do with handloads vs factory. Id put the round count at 1000-1500 rounds. The width of round count is varied as were this rifle used in PRS comps for example, then you would have long strings of rapid fire. It really doesnt matter though as you see this in most of the 6/6.5/7mm family at around the 1000-1500 round point. The 6.5CM is a light magnum and due to the pressure curve pushing 60k psi that pressure is what eats that barrel up, but you might and I mean might see a slight accuracy hit from 0.25MOA to 0.5MOA with the occasional flyer. As the round count moves closer to 2k (normally when competitors pull the barrel on these three calibers) youll begin to see that 0.5MOA opening up to 3/4-1MOA with more frequent flyers in the group. Using abrasives such as Iosso can help fix that problem short-term, and some folks will argue (rightfully so) that dropping the weight of the bullet will return the rifle to accurate groups. The throat erosion (aka freebore) reduces the amount of rifling immediately contacting the bullet. Lowering the weight of the bullet can alleviate the issue as heavier bullets require more spin to stabilize. Some pro shooters never remove the hard carbon build up in the throat as they feel this protects the steel more. Jury is still out on that theory.

I assume this is pretty normal. That cracking is going on, where the most heat and pressure happens. I just wonder if the barrel frequently did get a chance to cool of between shots or if it was run hot often? That is supposed to speed up that process of erosion.

To me, that barrel doesn't look too bad. Looks dirty but looks like any barrel I seen. The throat area looks good to me as that area is where it'll erode away and your accuracy starts to go downhill. If it shoots good, I would just keep the barrel. I'm not sure what the issue is in the context of this video as nothing was really explained.

That barrel doesn't look that bad, It does need a good cleaning. Get some Iosso paste also and use it on a patch wrapped on an old wore out bore brush.

Are you aware if the redi-catch would work with this? It seems like the mag catch bar is a standard milspec and if that's the case, you could turn this into true ambi using the redi catch

I've heard of that dry lake bed look. Some call it firecracking and it's due to hot loads or from faster powder.

Exactly. My 6.5 Creedmoor looks the same, if not worth, and still shoots und .5 MOA all day long. Go shootin´ and have fun. Reminder for me: Don´t shoot your barrels to hot.

Are you experiencing accuracy issues with this barrel? The main things I see are some copper fouling and a lot of carbon fouling and barrel throat/chamber reamed a little off centerline of bore. Chamber and throat not exactly concentric to barrel centerline. Not off by much though, so I'm wondering how does it group for you?

Interesting. Seems like it’s been through a lot of hard use without proper cleaning,. Using ammonia based solvent without running normal solvent afterwards?
