Thank you so much for this quick and simple fix. :) I weakened 2 rods on my jazzmaster neck pickup by placing a very strong magnet over them.. I thought hovering the magnet would create an E-Bow effect, it did not lol. Btw a tip: To see if your pickup magnet is strong or weak, place a nail over the pickup, if the pickup magnet is good, the nail will stick straight and not fall, if the pickup is weak, the nail wont stick well and will fall easily

Hey Lindy, dig your pickups! On my KZitem channel you may notice the Frailen splits on one of the 2 guitars on my KZitem wall photo. I’d consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject of guitar & guitar tone. My quandary is/was a sentimental body I have already has a “bucker” sized rout for the neck position. I’ve always chased tone and one characteristic I’m after is that glassy, classic sound kind of a combination between Eric Johnson and the classic sound SRV gets on his song “Lenny”. Of course with finger dynamics being able to get that poppy & snappy sound from upstroke fingerpicking. This video looks 6-7 years old. I hope you haven’t forgotten it and if you haven’t, I know you’ll leave a knowledgeable reply. Also, being 6-7 years old, if there are/is any new similarly designed or updated pickups due to technology or new discoveries keep that in mind too! Thanks for what you do! And hopefully, thanks for a speedy reply! 🙏🙏💜🙏🙏

I have a strange situation with a pickup that has been rewound, and am not sure if it’s a magnetic issue, or what. The said pickup is a Texas special custom shop bridge pickup on a tele. The only thing I can say is that the pickup only works when the strings actually touch the pole pieces. It sounds amazing, but only when the string makes contact with the pole piece. I have triple checked all connections, and am scratching my head. Sorry if this is not anything to do with the magnetic pull. I’m obviously not a guitar tech, but more of a player that would love to understand more of a technician.

I guess I'll answer my own question. I rewired a strat and did Lindy's technique in the video above to re-magnetize the pickups. I knew that the middle pickup on a strat was reverse wound, but what I didn't realize was that it must also have reverse polarity alnico magnets. So, in my ignorance, I magnetized all the pickups using the neo magnets in the same orientation. The result was out-of-phase pickups in the 2 and 4 position. Luckily, I didn't need to remove the pickquard, it seemed to work to reverse-magnetize the middle pickup from the top -- not requiring me to disassemble the guitar again.

As far as I know a true Alnico 5 magnet is anisotropic. That means it has a preferred direction of magnetisation. When Alnico 5 magnets are cast they are subjected to a process that creates the preferred direction. The full power of the magnet will only be realised if it is magnetised in the preferred direction. There are rumours of isotropic (non-directional) Alnico 5, but what would be the point - it just creates a weaker magnet. Pickup rod magnets are often sold both unmagnetised and without the preferred direction marked. I don't know how guitar pickup makers deal with orienting Alnico 5 rod magnets in single coil pickups. Can you explain Lindy? Is it possible there are a lot of pickups floating around with Alnico 5 magnets that have been assembled with the magnets in random orientation?
