This was my era as a kid playing hockey. We were from the projects (Orient Heights) but were better than the kids on the north shore and south shore. We moved away and brought that Boston style of play with us and we always were picked first when playing street hockey or ice hockey. I had Orr's book Orr on Ice and his LP The two sides of Bobby Orr. Both autographed. My brother played net so he would be Gerry Cheevers I was defense so I would be Bobby Orr.

Bobby Orr was the greatest player of all time. But he needed just a little help to win this tussle. Ultimately, though, Orr could never quite make up for the vicious hit Quinn put on him.

It was so incredible to watch Orr. I grew up in Cambridge, Ma during the Orr years and it was simply amazing to watch him dominate night after night. I'm sorry but Gretzky is a distant 2nd to Orr when it comes to being the best ever!

Another thing, where’s the grand pumping of the fist, pointing @ the opposition, jumping up or sliding on the knee, talkin’ trash, fighting w/the opponent’s bench, smiling @ the crowd, dancing, spinning, screaming, jubilant shit ya’ see whenever “Joe Smo” scores these days?! Bobby scores (or sets one up), immediately puts his head down, doesn’t disrespect his fellow players, and skates Back to the next face off (or bench). What a graceful epitome of a man (AND of a player)! The NHL really, REALLY, needs his kind for the game as it now stands. 👍

Somebody, help me(PLEASE)! WTF is the title of the song playing alongside these insane Orr highlights)? It was played @ the opening of each Bruins broadcast in the 70s/80s & I used to hum it whenever we kids played street hockey down @ the tennis courts (“someone“ cut the center netting out). I LOVE this song (I think it’s a jazzed up version of a Beethoven tune)! ANYONE, do you know the title/artist? I can’t look it up on ITunes’til I know either-or. 😐👍

Bobby Orr could skate for minutes (not an exaggeration) without being disturbed, shoot, rebound, pass, defend, play goal (when he had to), FIGHT (hear me, Gretzky promoters), lead, rag the puck, control the game, and score like nobody ever had, has, and (it’s likely) ever will. Orr lacked no aspect needed to be a superstar. BIG exception - he couldn’t last (not the way HE played). Brave to a fault, his tough, rugged, loyal style was bound to ground this angel of the game. That’s why each/every person who’s known him (Gretz’ included) will tell you the same - Bobby Orr IS ice hockey. He defines the game. Jesus!, I’m rambling. Great to hear you voice what is, too often, denied him - that Bobby Orr was/is a genuine pioneer! 👍

I had the utmost respect for Bobby Orr and I’ve been a Die Hard Blackhawks fan since the 1970-71 season. Even though he played for my favorite team I don’t think he looked right in a Blackhawks sweater.

I'm agerman native Habsfan born '84. Only seeing those footages here makes my heart smiling. What a dominant beast on skates. If you consider the position he played on Bobby Orr is probably the most influential Hockey player of all time. And in my opinion the very best. I wished I could have seen him live.

Even a more amazing Orr goal happened in Montreal. The puck was shot in to the right corner boards near the icing line. Orr is near the corner and golf’s it on Montreal’s net; the puck is now behind the icing line going by Dryden’s outstretched leg and gets by the right post, then in the net. The video of the goal is on KZitem; dig it out and tell me what you think!

Orr was the greatest. Orr could do and did more on ice than Gretsky ever could or did. Orr could check a forward behind he Boston net, skate to the other end and score, and he did regularly. Gretsky never could, never did.

My wife and I are life-long Flyers fans but her description of when, as a youngster at a Flyers-Bruins game when Orr killed an entire Flyers powerplay by just ragging the puck the entire time still gives me chills. She said the Philadelphia crowd just all stood up as one and gave him a standing ovation.

Watched Bobby play in a Midget Tournament in Milton when he was only 13 years old. Pretty well all top Boston Brass was there scouting him. He skated circles around those older boys. Have been a huge fan of his ever since along with Derek Sanderson. Best pair of skaters in the OLD NHL, penalty killing specialists.

Pat Quinn was one of the dirtiest players that ever played in the NHL. The hit he put on Orr in Orr's rookie season wasn't the first time Quinn put a "questionable" hit on somebody. He had a reputation for being nasty.

Stupid play by Orr. Where was he going so far to the left. No need for that There was a Bruins player alone in front of the net. Orr made a huge mistake by exposing himself, trying to do all by himself. Stupid like Lindros. Mr. Head down...
