It's crazy how Robin Williams went out like Neil.

I don't know there's that much to it. The moral of the tale seemed to be a rather hackneyed one; follow your (American) dream. Robin Williams never really played a straight role convincingly, although here he's fun. He was only ever Robin Williams being Robin Williams. But overall it's worth a look just for the performances, and I hope I never get over my teenage crush on Robert Leonard as Neil Perry💘

I warched ghe beginning along time ago , provably around 16-17. It didnt seem appealing at all even for a robin williams movie. At 25 i rewarched it , having jsut gone through the most difficult time of my life i wish i had seen thus earlier

Normally when a movie is sad and i cry (which does not happen often when i‘m watching a movie) it normally gets better the more i watch it With dead poets society it is the exact other way around, i cry more every time I am at the point where i legit started crying while watching this movie, not when you talked about neils death but generally this movie makes me so emotional not completely in a bad way, it also makes me so happy and comforts me, thats why its my favorite movie

I thought about this long and the conclusion I came to is that the movie intentionally disregards that life is LONG. When you say it is a romantic story you should have brought the definition of romance to the front for the viewer. You use the word romantic like an adjective all the time about the movie but that romanticizing obscures more than it illuminates. I will give you an example: Keating says law, medicine, architecture in the end - professions - are what you make money with but only love, romance, and dreams are what make life worth living. In this, he might be correct but he is throwing away the baby with the bathwater. What about the dream of becoming an architect? What about those passionate industrious people that (like a cousin of mine) say when they are 5 years old ''I want to be a doctor'' and then make it their lifes passion? My point is that The movie is overly romanticized and oversimplified. It is done to achieve a point (and narrow the scope of the audience's attention) but it is done quite intentionally. Time is contracted, ''Carpe Diem'' is said very correctly but without perspective. Life is long and the kids are young they will have time enough to grow, make mistakes, learn from them and continue. The more important lesson I believe (besides paying attention to your life and savoring it) would have been to teach them to look at common things like books, professions, seasons and people and teach them to see the passion in them, to make them passionate about whatever they endeavor to do. Because a stone mason can be as stubbornly passionate about his profession as any poet and more than many. Ask Michaelangelo. Time is contracted because the main character needs to feel pressured, he needs to feel that his parents are suffocating him, that there is no way out, except there was a way out. Neil had to confront his father and he was unable to grow that fast, he was unable to do something it would take an adult to do, with no help or witness. His position was really difficult but not impossible. That to me is the sad part of the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, I lost count of the times I have watched it. But with time you start to see more than one perspective. Are Narcissistic parents horrible, yes yes they are, that is undeniable. Do most people waste the time that is given them, definitely. The teachers' fear was that the kids were completely indoctrinated and would come out as copy of their parents without thought or feeling in their bodies, exhorts them to think for themselves, to notice their own individuality and exercise it. All of these are very important but he does so in opposition to the current way of thinking. The teacher knows he is unorthodox and does not fully realize that his choice is going to cost someone. His role is more subtle than we give it credit. The entire movie is more subtle than we give it credit and I long for the day some KZitemr will go further in than just noticing the surface. Any way I miss Robin.

The suicide scene has to be one of the most gut-wrenching death scenes in cinema history. Placing the headress on his head, naked to the waist, facing the moonlit winter night, like a brave and beautiful sacrifice; I didn't weep, but I wanted to kneel in awe

This is a great movie when it is the first one you have seen in the genre. Once you have watched enough films, you realize this is nothing more than a remake of the same film that was made countless times previously.

It’s had to accept that Neil committed suicide. This movie really didn't end well for me. After Todd found his voice to speak up, the movie should have continued. It's sad how parents forced their kids to do what they think is best for their children but never ask them what they actually want to do. This is my second time watching this movie today. I cried a lot tho. I wish every parent or guardian and teachers as well watch this movie. O captain, my captain

I saw this 30yrs ago and am watching it now and it's lost none of its power to move, to get u involved in their daily struggles of youth, girls and parental acceptance but more so wanting his parents to actually be aware of him as an individual and see that he's not going to follow the same old route set down by dad and all who've gone before on the route to lawyer dom or doctor dom!!! Thanx to Mr. Keating for opening his unseeing eyes and make him maybe seize the day!!

I'm very late to the club but I'm glad that i finally watched it. was expecting ending to be more happier but it wasn't. i always feel so raged when someone just doesn't do anything because if fear from parents and teachers and anyone who cannot harm you. in my whole life my parents always told me to do what i want but the sad thing is i myself don't what i want. carpe diem.

I’m so grateful that we have an amazing history teacher. She’s just the best at motivating us to take part in her lessons while also challenging us. The fact that she relates to us students is what is truly special about her. You just cannot dislike her. She’s one of those people in my life that I’ll never forget because she taught us to think for ourselves and speak up when we have an idea. Whenever you got it right, she’ll compliment you and say “that’s awesome”. That way you start getting excited about what’s to come. I believe that she is one of the few teachers that actually care about each one of us. Thank you❣️
