How have you fastened the wooden squares to the shaft so that the wheel rotates the shaft and not slips on it?

Thank you so much for posting your recent video. I've been interested in water wheel pumps for small irrigation projects for several years. Looks like your pump does what you need for your immediate project. Would you mind posting some stats like diameter of your wheel, amount of water pumped for a given time and height you are gaining from the pump to end of the hose. Your quick release coupling seemed to work well - I'll have to check at a hardware store to see if I can find the same. There are a few of us around interested in similar projects - not sure why not a lot more. Thanks.

DenverDave2 Thanks! It does a real good job. Think the height its pushing is like 8-10 ft from wheel outlet to end of hose. The wheel itself is 3' diameter. Had to move paddles out 3" so water would push it. Thanks again!

Sorry, I was so wrapped up in watching your video multiple times and thinking about the hose coupling that I completely missed that volume statistics were in the description. I think the wheel looks attractive. Seems like some things could be adjusted for more volume, but you are already pumping more water than you need to water your pigs. A water wheel that earns its keep. Also the construction was such that some of us could mimic your approach. I've created a facebook group for water wheel pumps - if you are a mind please stop by and give suggestions. I've already added a thread discussing your wheel. With your permission, I'd like to add a picture of your wheel to the banner on the group. I think you've made a very neat looking wheel, modest size, with available materials -- good job. facebook.com/groups/240458583255303

thanks for posting. good work. here are some things to consider. at :35, the scoop is Not correctly designed. at :40, note that water falls out of the scoop, on the down-hill side. (scoop length should be equal to 1/3 of the length of the outermost coil.) see link for info. a coil/spiral pump can be optimized for 'air lift'. water can be 'pumped' straight UP at the pump outlet, directly to an elevated catchment. this can supply water to a gravity fed system. cheers linked illustration of a spiral pump; scoop is Not correctly shown lurkertech.com/water/pump/morgan/tripod/image019.jpg en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_pumping#Coil_pump lurkertech.com/water/pump/tailer/
