i've played a few games now and see that big resources strat just thumps every1 else. Is this true? I like the idea of the game. I just hate when some one plays twice on yax 5 and then ux 2 and gets 32 corn

There's a variant from the designer himself, that you can only ever can get max 20 corn in one uxmal 2 action. If you're not playing with the expansion, for most players it's almost a mandatory rule, even if it's not in the original rules. Even on Boardgamearena you can turn this variant on.

The person that owns the most wood usually wins this game. The ability to block people from getting wood cannot be overlooked.

This seems very hard to Master my 3rd game I made 82points thanks to your strategy, but it was a 2 player game, it probably is faster with 2other players, it's really hard to get far on the wheels and get the 16 corns, still, I believe it's the best strategy I've seen so far

Great tips. I played so long ago I couldn't really remember how to get points. My last few games online after many months of not playing I ended up doing a lot of stuff, worrying about food too much and just doing too many things rather than just doing a set few things that get points. Now I remember it is much better to really go for a certain track rather than a bit of everything badly.

Thank you for the strategy guide. I played this game 3-4 times with my wife and we averaged 50 points. I've read somewhere that 100+ points is decent in Tzolkin so we decided to watch this video. Thank you again.

Excellent video. My playing group doesn't find the "Uxmal gambit" to be much of a gambit. It's game breaking. The player doing it rarely scores fewer than 100 points (even in a 4er). So, we heard about and instituted a house rule that on the first turn (or turn 0), players may not place more than one worker on the Uxmal wheel.

A house rule that breaks the essence of a strategical board game in my humble opinion... Oh, let's play chess, but, a king's pawn opening is forbidden!?

@@pureeschaap Opening with a king pawn is a solid strategy. Opening with Uxmal is a broken good strategy.

@@TheFilipFonky what really breaks the balance in the game is the market. If you limit the action to 20 corn the games becomes pretty well balanced.

i think the position of the extra worker and and the build a building with corn should be swapped. so that the extra worker is in position 5 and not 4

Thank you for your analysis. It will be very useful in evaluating the best possible choice. I did, however, notice one oversight in your evaluation of building tiles. You did not include the civilization bonuses which could significantly increase the VP/Pip for lower valued buildings making them desirable, if you are pursuing a building strategy. For example, if we assume your civilization cards give you a bonus of 5VP/Building, and you choose the 1-7 building. You would get (3+5VP)/(3+3.5 Pips) = 1.23 VP/Pip for 1 wood vs. (42+5VP)/((7x6)+3.5) = 1.03 VP/Pip for 7 gold. Even the 2 wood and 1 brick building would be (10+5VP)/((2x3)+4+3.5 Pips) = 1.11VP/Pip.

Played this game a few times with people and I over heard something about a "skull" strategy....The person said that basically you place your starting 3 workers out right away on Yak 0, Chich 0, and the one that gives you 3 corn after the wheel turns. From there they said you take the 3 corn after it's moved then next turn place him back and repeat until the skull becomes yours in Yax. Collect the skull then use it immediately to get the 7pnts and move up on the green god. Rinse and Repeat until the end of the game.....Is that correct or is there a better way?

you're undervaluing buildings. There is no talk about blocking strategies and starvation.

for instance, you should also add to the building VP the number of civ card building multipliers you have (or think you'll get in the end). There are also better building multipliers available in the civ cards.

You are also over valueling civ cards at the end. If you have 7 tools and x5 tool civ cards. Then the choice is between a free tool (8x5) vs paying for an additional tool multiplier. (7x6).

Rolling 2 dice does not give equal number of odd and even numbers - 6 even, 5 odd

its best, therefore, to roll multiples of 2 for food, 3 for wood and so on
@dylanday9384

@@petergoulding5671 The number of options is not equal, but the probability of odd vs even is. This is because some numbers are more commonly rolled than others with two dice. For example, 7 has a 6/36=1/6 chance while 2 has a 1/36 chance. If you add it up, both evens and odds total 18/36=1/2. Alternatively, just imagine rolling the dice one at a time. If the first is even, then the parity of the them together will match the second die, which has a 50/50 chance of being even or odd. Similarly if the first is odd, then the parity will be the opposite of the second die, but it's still 50/50.
