I was 8 years old when they was built 4 years later i was the paper boy for them all the papaer shop owner would drop the papers in each block in the basememt at the side of the bins i use to get payed a guinea a week 21 shillings i use to do two rounds in the morning and two in the evening and of course sundays and i grew up on haslam street facing lenny barn .

thank you for sharing this glimpse of the city where I lived in 1969-70! I cherish many memories of the 'acropolis', where I resided, the many people I met and the 124 steps leading down to the city centre! Also in the jagged and challenging terrain of downtown Rochdale I learned to drive the car!
