It captures the emotion of feeling 'gone' better than I've seen in most movies. Like leaving the military there's a film of the world that comes off and it's much less colorful and more dull, you know food doesn't taste as good or hobbies still entertain you but you can feel it slipping. I dipped my toe into the deep end of this miserable disorder and thankfully I came back, but for a moment I could understand everything in the world because once you're there you feel like an observer. You don't feel what others feel and to you, everyone looks silly caring about life and putting value in things that are so unimportant you can tell that life is all about distracting yourself from the end, you don't take your memories with you or possessions, your silly quirks and personality will be forgotten sooner than it took you to live your whole life. He doesn't feel the rain because he's there and with perfect (mentally ill) clarity he can see the seriousness of what mattered in his life and it's the only thing that stays with you when you're at that place is the realization that the people you meet and interact with are the only thing that ever mattered because it's all we share. Can never undo what's done and while you wont remember it when you're gone, it's a shit feeling to know you brought more bad into the world than good, feel like a waste of participant to life.

Such a great scene, such an underrated actor. I told my buddy when we were watching this that the bearded guy is Slater in Dazed and Confused and I’m telling you this man’s head almost exploded lmao he couldn’t believe it.

I feel that scene every time I watch it. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen it. My head has been in the same place as Tommy’s…for about 7 years. Until you understand what it’s like to have every fabric of your soul ripped out, you will never understand what it’s like to be incapable of human emotion. There are no more tears left to shed. No cold rain to feel. Most everyone will assume they’ve experienced it or even gotten through it. I too was once like that when I was younger. The first couple of times you allow your heart to be destroyed will be extremely difficult and it will seem like the end but the worst, the real worst is yet to come. You’ll know when you’re there when your life feels like a never ending version of this scene. Numb, empty, broken, detached, and tired from carrying these burdens. One day you’ll look up and you’ll be all alone and when that day comes it will be your turn “to move on…”

so historically inaccurate. NOTHING that comes out of Hollywood is. there might be a crumb here and there, but in general it is HISTORICAL GARBAGE. why don't you people read real history instead of going to the "movies"

Why does this film not talk about how before America was colonized, centuries before, the indigineous killed, mutilated, partook in deplorable acts of torture, violence, and senseless killing, scalping people for sport, torturing people with the belief that their screams made their ''magic'' stronger etc.. But in movies like this, they are always portrayed as noble, and at ''one with nature'', and the Americans are always evil and HOSTILE? Really gets the ol' noggin' joggin!

Every time I watch this in my current mental emotional state, tears RUN down my cheeks, and I cant breath very well. I was turned into a RACIST against the NATIVE PEOPLES by the Dene tribe in NWT when I was 12.. it took me until 21 to escape that prejudice, and it was only because Native women KEPT getting crushes on me and tried to force themselves into my life, FROM THEN when I was 12! And she was Dene! I am certain , cause there is ONLY Dene and Eskimo in NWT, no other tribes ..Her name was Tammy.. and she was sweet attractive but butch.. and she was tough.. she turned real real nasty to me after I refused her advances.. then again, 4 years later RIGHT where I sit now, lol 1985.. was the year we moved to this neighbourhood, so mum could own her own home instead of rent, and it just happened to be smack dab in the middle of the most native infested place in LONDON ONTARIO at the time! I was hateful and paranoid of natives at that time.. they were hostiles LITERALLY AS much as you see in this film !! NO shit, that much! sad sad sad ...so wrong! SO evil that they design us innocents to be divided! I was B&E'd 6 times from 1985 -1989!! Lost my entire collections and stereo gear over and over, until mum insurance demand we get high end security in order to keep policy,. which turned out to be the way to go. 1990 VANCOUVER BC< Emily Carr College .. and another west coast native girl in my class and then IN MY immediate circle of friends.. she came after me hard..CHARLENE.. I have her art in my sketch book right now STILL , and it is haunting. THIS IS Difficult for me to write.. it stirs emotions .. I was not weary of NATIVES when I was in Emily Carr, that was the year I turn 21.. I liked Charlene .. she suffered from heavy binge drinking but then we all did.. I just was not attracted to her physically but I was spiritually and emotionally now today, here same house belong to my mum who live in UK, so I can live free.. our next door neighbour house on the left have three different tenants and the one closest is Jennifer , Keith, and her 12 yrs old approx daughter.. full blood native.. meanwhile GIllian in back white girl with 3 kids, 2 of which are HALF BLOOD native! ONly one white ..Serenity.. I love natives now, no matter what their status , in fact only natives who are not worth being friends with are the CHIEFS and the ultra wealthy who are no longer real natives! It is always about JEWS corrupting anyone and everyone with their evil sad ways, THEY truly are the reps of SATAN< but I digress! PEACE to all NATIVE peoples around the world, I ask for your forgiveness because although I dont have blood on my hands, I am still going to ask forgiveness for the ignorance and mistakes of CATHOLIC PRIESTS AND also wealthy white Christian politicians! Natives along with BLACKS will find JEWS behind most of their bad history, this is a FACT, just like right now, PORNO GAY TRANS WOKE , and much more, like hmmmn. for instance JABBERWOKYS! or all else PHARMA< ALL ELSE ABORTION< anything anyone who looks at it clear can see is wrong, it is from them, FACT.. but this STILL does not mean that white non jews are blameless.. too many complied, or profited ..IMO and for the direct ancestors of THOSE people, their needs to be at the very least, an APOLOGY< , you know, like how JAPAN never apologized to Korea or CHINA or Philipines for their sheer atrocities in WW2, ya like that

It's such a beautiful and tragic scene. Rorys body language is perfect. When he speaks to Yellow Hawk, he doesn't say sorry. He knows it's meaningless. He simply acknowledges how wrong they were and begs for mercy. It's an immensely powerful moment.

Worth pointing out how real this is. Thomas is haunted and destroyed by all the things he has done, not what has been done to him. He is a great solider, but also a man with a strong conscience and moral compass. A true warrior that was too honorable inside for all the things he was ordered to do.

I was thinking on this the other day..how we rolled up onto a new hemisphere full of people and cultures and beauty and just butchered and maimed all of the souls that existed..I cant imagine what it must have been like when all of this was going down.what fears they felt..what terror that was a daily event...the killings and orders to do more and more..an entire world of people just gone and whats left sent away to dusty outposts to die off...the worse crime of humanity ever is the destruction of the natives in the new world..millions upon millions of people just gone in decades
