MLK was a TRUE Protestant. More in line with the teachings of the early Protestant reformers than the later American “Protestants” during the segregation & civil rights era Sad to see where America has shifted from its early Protestant reformer values That’s why end times prophecy predicted it’s demise and fall from its proclaimed “lamb likeness” to more like a dragon(Rev 13) Making her no different than the Roman Papacy herself, like mother like daughter. There are people who say that Trump’s refusal to be drafted is the same as Muhammad Ali. It is not the same. Muhammad Ali draft dodged openly and was convicted for it. Donald Trump lied on his MEPS documents. Bone Spurs, really? Yet he says 50+ years later that he’s for the military.

White people had the freedom. You missed the whole point of Ali Argument . First he was a believer in Islam and Quran . Allah says fight those that fight you. The Vietnamese did not call black people the N Word also there are was Vietnamese Muslims there. The U.S went to steal their rubber. Went to Iraq to steal their Oil went to Africa to steal their Natural resources. Footnote if was not for 800 thousand Muslims that fought in WW2 America would have lost
@timg6223

@@askiaeducationalnetwork4978 Odd information without any historical info to support any of it. The US is sitting on more oil than in Iraq so that makes no sense, these other supposed stolen resources are unable to be processed within the US as there's little to no manufacturing here. You're espousing propaganda that you've heard somewhere. The Vietnamese didn't call anyone anything, that's not a reason for war regardless of who's involved. The US went to stop the spread of Communism and to keep the people free from oppression, not saying that was the US's fight but that's what happened. Footnote, over 127 million people mobilized to end WW2, all contributions mattered but your estimated 800 thousand (actually closer to 5+ million) Muslims weren't the difference makers alone.

My cousin Al died in Vietnam the month after Ali refused to go. He enlisted. I enlisted on his birthday after I graduated high school. My grandfather's grandfather enlisted in the 17th Connecticut Volunteers during the American Civil War and fought at Gettysburg and Fort Wagner to end slavery. My old man quit high school to enlist in WW2. There was a lot ways to dodge the Draft in America before Nixon ended it. However since as Mao says political power comes out of the barrel of a gun, Colin Powell ended up with a lot more political power than Mohamed Ali and my old man got a kick out of Mohammed Ali being knocked on his ass with a busted jaw by an ex-Marine named Ken Norton who took Ali's title away from him in trial by combat. :)

First of all, thanks to you and your family members for your sacrifice and service to our nation. My Dad served in WWII and was seriously wounded during the Battle of Anzio, receiving both The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star. If I may sir, Ali was not seeking political power in taking the stand he did against serving in the Vietnam War. He had stated many times he was not trying to lead his people - his stand was a personal one that generated extensive news coverage because of who he was. At one point, he said: “if I thought going to war would bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my fellow Black Americans, they wouldn’t have to draft me - I’d join tomorrow.” If Ali’s appeal to the Supreme Court had failed, he willingly would have served five years in jail and paid the $10,000 fine. You may not agree with Ali’s position, but would it hurt to give him the benefit of the doubt? Post boxing, he performed numerous acts of charity and supported dozens of organizations that most people don’t even know about. Good luck to you and be well.

@@Texasjim2007 I get your family was/is very military-oriented and l respect that. Perhaps another quote from Ali may help you understand what I mean: “Whatever the persecution is for standing up for my religious beliefs, even if it means facing machine gun fire that day, I’ll do it before renouncing the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I’m ready to die.” Didn’t you and your relatives fight in part so that we’d be free to follow any religion we want? I had the pleasure of meeting Ali in 1993 and talking with him for a while. I can tell you without any reservation that boxing was about 10% of who he was (and he admitted Norton was tough - he couldn’t quite figure him out). He was sincere, compassionate and totally devoted to his religion, which dictated he could not participate in any wars unless called to by Allah or his messenger. Bottom line - this man was willing to go to jail and even die for his religious beliefs - I’d he say was pretty courageous.

@@Texasjim2007 Don’t know where you’re getting your information from but you’re way off base. If you think the Muslim religion is a cult, it’s a big one - well over 500 million worldwide. For goodness sakes, Ali was not anti-American or anti-Semitic! He won an Olympic Gold Medal for his country and yet was refused service at restaurants in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. His conviction for refusing to join the army was overturned by the US Supreme Court, but if it hadn’t been, he wouldn’t have fled the country, he’d have gone to jail. He said at the time: “so I’ll go to jail - we’ve been in jail for 400 years.” I guess Archie Bunker was right: “There’s a little bit of me in every one of yous.”

For those who are calling the greatest man who ever lived a coward, he did the manly thing to do. Vietnam War was a piece of shit war that should have never happened. The Vietnamese people never did anything bad to us to begin with. It was just some cockhead US Government who had to nosedive into their business and prevent Vietnam from being a communist country. Ali knew exactly what was going on, and he realized that it was a pointless war that wasn't worth fighting for. I bet other people felt the same way about it at the time. So it's not being a coward if he did the right thing. Plus, this also had to do with how badly white people mistreated black people over the years, so he didn't feel like doing the white man's dirty work.
