Korean Taekwondo and American Taekwando is two very different things. When I was in Korea it was a very different animal, Koreans wouldn't even teach it to Americans.

TKD is just useless for any kind of real conflict... or at least the kind currently practiced is!! Now, I am by no means a master, but I have practiced martial arts since I was in elementary school. Starting with traditional shōtōkan karate, I have tried myself on about a dozen various types and styles of martial arts since then, including such exotic ones like Naginatadō and I always train on at least 2 schools simultaneously. So by now I have more or less 25 years of solid experience and can hold my own in pretty much any kind of hand-to-hand or armed sparring, without ever being the best within a certain style or school of martial arts. Yet when I tried TKD during my time at the university I could pretty much wipe the floor with any of them... granted not when we were practicing strictly olympic TKD, but whenever we practiced open sparring or even just action-reaction exercises I dominated even the Kyosanim (TKD version of Sensei) pretty much every time. I never had that kind of superiority in ANY of the other martial arts I tried...

Amazing video. All theses fights were old school style. I've trainned 1986 - 2005 and the problem is that now I'm 52 and it's impossible to fight at this level. Getting old is sad but at least alive and happy :)

I don't care what other people say but as someone who does taekwondo i hate that people are hating on the "newer style" of it. The athletes are still strong and could probably knock someone out. Not only that but the reason we dont kick like manics is because the athletes are way to good at defending which makes it harder if you look at the "old school" fights they are practically wide open if they did kick like the "old school way" they would not be able to get very far

Sansores is the guy in the first clip. People call him rough all of the time, now I understand he's was just using old school techniques. He ended 4th place at the olympics this year.

I thought I was the only one who missed the old taekwondo, I am 50 years old, I practiced until I was 25, and the fights that you see in this video were a waste of intensity, technique and variety. Today I am very sad to see the Olympic Games and see how taekwondo is not even the shadow of what it was.

I'm old school man. I've taught martial arts from the early 80s to the 2000s. We were tougher back then. The world has gone soft. Who wants to see two people playing footsies in the Olympics? We want beautiful aggressive kicks and technique.

Seems you're mixing styles, though. WTF and IDF. I practiced WTF when I was younger. IDF here in my country wasn't trustworthy. I didn't have any intention to become a professional olympic athlete, I was already too old for that! But it was the best I found and it was really cool and exhausting!
