I disagree with your last part there. overwatch 2 is in maintain and milk it mode. There will not be any significant content updates likely ever again. they will release a new hero or map only as often as they feel they need to maintain their whales interests, all other content will be extremely expensive skins. Basically they are in try to extract the most money with the least effort business plan mode. So there really is no future for overwatch it will never get better than it is now, and it isn't that great right now overwatch 2 team is just coasting till the game runs out of steam.

I belive some parts of this were inaccurate. Proj titan explained by jeff kaplan qas aproject that they werent that passinate about either. Which also ended up cancelling it. Sure they took what they got from that failed projected and put it in the game, but i dont think they ever intended to make it like project titan as you said in the video, project titan was a completly different game wasnt even a fps. Hell, the ow dev team wanted to make a seprerate pve game. The main issue was the CEO. As he forced them to make a secound game. As they previous titles like diablo 2 and etc. Which was the main reason all that happened

Should've touched more upon how greedy the sequel was - insane microtransactions - skins doubled in price from last game - heroes locked behind paywalls - gameplay was basically the same - the PvE element was delayed then cancelled which was the entire reason (at least that's what Blizzard says) they made the second game

hey! ty for watching my video and commenting :) i agree with you, given that it was my first video and first time writing a script, i did miss a lot of elements. in the original script i touched on all of that but it was over 40 mins long, so i had to reduce it and say "im not here to talk about the monetization and how blizzard does business, so i can keep the video focus on the development of OW1 and OW2 and their relation to project titan. in doing so i have neglected a lot of key details like the ones you mentioned. this video was a great learning opportunity for me and i have used the lessons that i have learned from this video into the video that will come out next week. i hope youll check it out then, but again ty for checking out my video and commenting :)

What really stings is that Blizzard has some of the most amazing storytelling in their franchises- and Overwatch was gonna be blessed by it, until it wasn't. :| If you compare (not saying all of it was good, though) older Overwatch hero lore to the new hero lore? It's pathetic. Not to forget that there's still a massive plot hole with whether magic exists in universe or not.

overwatch was the first pvp game that really clicked with me, I played almost daily from the beta to around 2018, everything about the 6v6 hero shooter genre was perfect for me. Every character felt like a different game and the new updates were actually hype. I’ve met some amazing people due to playing overwatch and even now I still get nostalgia from the main theme, after blizzard pretty much abandoned the game after releasing echo, I slowly stopped playing the game since all new event were just them recycling old events, it just didn’t feel the same playing lucio ball and uprising for the 5th time without them getting any new content added other than some tiny adjustments to the difficulty or some other factors such as the challenges in archives missions. After they announced ow2 I felt so happy seeing people actually talk about ow again, I just miss overwatch so much but they keep making the wrong choices about almost everything. I hope marvel rivals will get blizzard to start seriously fixing the issues ow2 has, they already made the characters free so it’s atleast a good start. all in all, bring back 6v6 please

My opinion but think the biggest issue was the disconnect between the devs and the core player base. With the first and ultimate nail in the coffin with the creation of Brig… The moment she was created off face value, it immediately nerfed any skill player and the best designed characters that take the longest times to master like tracer, genji, dive tanks, etc and inevitably created goats making dps obsolete and ruined the momentum of owl all together, and enjoyment for streamers, cutting off their biggest sources of marketing. Opinion again, think the devs listened to too much of their loudest players (support) and didn’t scale the game properly for their largest but quietest player base (dps, tank & flex players). Because they continued to value new simple heros (Moira, weaver) and buff abilities that required little skill (cleanse, lamp, grip, res) over and over creating really miserable metas for their main player base and changing the whole reason the game was rewarding. Landing shots or making good decisions in a fair setting. And I understand the concept of trying to get new players or people with bad aim involved but the devs should have had better representation in their meetings in terms where there should have been more dps voices in the room than healer because their clearly wasnt and still isn’t. The integrity of the game got lost a long time ago. Bad things happen to any company that loses sales over time. Think any of us who still play are chasing that feeling we had before they made brig

Good video, but no, the game is not really looking all that good right now, I'd say it is balancing on a cliff atm. Tanks are raid bosses atm, and not fun at all to play or play against. And now the queue times are through the roof. The game needs a drastic change to fix this issue. Balancing alone isn't gonna cut it.

Blizzard has fumbled with not capitalizing on OW1s sucess in 2016, not increasing their dev numbers and pumping out content like crazy. They fumbled on trying to make PvE work in a game that had millions of active PvP players and could have grown to League of Legends heights if they gave it the care. They fumbled by putting the game in a 3 year content drought (on one of the worst metas ever) And they fumbled again by releasing OW2 as 5v5, which ruined the core essence of Overwatch, Teamplay, Hero Identities and having a game with lots of depth and strategies while also being casual friendly. Overwatch 1 is my favourite game ever, i can forgive them for not increasing their devs or trying to make the game something it was not and wasting 3 years doing so, but i cant forgive them for making it 5v5. It turned OW1/6v6, a once exceptional Game, one of the best Multiplayer Experiences i ever had, into a Deathmatch, where Counterswaps decide the gameflow (in Pro play aswell as in gold elo) and where you cant always pick the Hero you want. They also removed lots of Hero Playstyles, rein cant brawl at the frontline anymore because he gets annihilated, wrecking ball cant flank and setup plays for his team, zarya doesnt have a 2nd tank to charge her bubbles and trade damage with the enemies, etc. Its just a lesser game, sure short term it might have appealed to more FPS players, but the issues of 5v5 are too big, tank will never be fun in this format, DPS Heroes have to be powercrept by a 20% heal reduction passive and supports often get better damage capabilities than the damage role to be able to survive/protect themselves. Not to mention the dozens of passives that had to be introduced to somewhat make up for the lack of a 2nd Tank. 5v5 will never be Peak OW, the game can slowly grow sure, but it wont ever reach the peak it once had, because OW1 was actually special, it had a dedicated playerbase after 3 years of neglect, but OW2 doesnt, people are fed up. I Imagine, Blizzard will try 5v5 for another 6 - 8 Seasons, realize its unfixable and go back to 6v6, we might even get a rebrand from "Overwatch 2" to just "Overwatch" again. Anyways, this comment is long enough, its just sad to see what the last 2 years have done to my comfort game.

wow, this comment just mirrors my thoughts so well, fuck blizzard, ruined my childhood game for cash, praying we get the old overwatch back, the satisfying sound effects, the passionate lead devs that now left the game, the 6v6, the normal game we loved, thanks for this dope ass comment bro, thinking back on peak overwatch ever day missing it ngl

It does feel like they've rounded a corner, they're getting back to maintaining what made the original game great to begin with. They need to focus on the PvP, make it the best it can be, and continue making new content for it. Maybe in a couple years they can get back to PvE stuff, like the Archives missions were. They stopped maintaining the game for three years to come out with three missions in the end. They made three missions WHILE maintaining the game before that.

I loved this game - my first proper FPS. I bought it for my birthday in 2017, I played it every day for years until the moment the servers were shut down. I was so excited. The betrayal... I never got over it. I stopped playing. I couldn't find the drive anymore... Couldn't care enough to see the heroes I loved, the maps I lost and would never see again. I just didn't want to. I watched the league since the day I got the game. Www when my home team, The London Spitfire, won the inaugural season. We I said to myself "This is my calling. I want to do this for job" Now, 7 years on, I'm officially starting my E-sports studies in college, I'll work my way through the levels of my course through the coming years and maybe find a new FPS to play, maybe Overwatch will return and maybe, just maybe, I'll answer the recall. Overwatch gave me something, it gave me my job, my dream career. It gave me my favourite heroes like Hanzo and Zenyatta. I want to get back what we lost. And I hope one day... One day I'll see the cherry blossoms of Hanamura again

heres my issue. people joke about OW2 being "the shop update" and yeah microtransactions suck. but are kind of a necessary evil. it gives the company a steady income, unlike OW 1 when you got the game, that's about it. great for the player but Blizard saw "we aren't making money from this, so stop working on it." now that OW has a way to keep making money. they can afford to work on it more... but... what have we gotten out of it, really nothing. new heros, maps skins... cool... been there done that. they are plagued by the over hype and under delivering. they need to make something that pushes the game forward instead of being stuck where the game has been for YEARS and now they dont have an excuse because they are getting the funding now.
