The 80s was a decade of great wonderful songs ... but this is just an anomaly.

it's weird how this song captured so many hearts. Even young people loved this song even though we knew full well it was hokey af! It's just a bit of fun. Kinda like when my dad would say stuff when I was upset like, "Cheer up, son. It could always get worse. And it probably will." :D Thanks, dad.

David did it like the heartthrob that he was. Barry did it like the consummate musician. That’s why Barry’s was a hit even though David did it first.

My dad sang this to me growing up, and would dance around the room with me. I'd start off angry, and always end up laughing. Now I sing it to my son.

I was on a trip to London with my family, probably about the time this song came out. The boys and I went downstairs in the hotel to explore, and this was playing in the lobby. We couldn’t wait to get upstairs and sing it to my wife. We all laughed our heads off!

I remember this from when I was a kid. The funny thing is, it's not even a real accent. it's a very exaggerated accent that would be offensive today lol

The more i listen to this song the more i like it. With that said, the more i watch the "students" do thier stupid arm flailing, the more i absolutely hate it. It looks so stupid, also the one chick that stands up is just cringe n its even worse when she pretends to play the harmonica. Either way, cool song

I don't even remember what happened today that made me remember this song but once I did I had to hear it. I bought the cassette single back in the day. Weird Al, Joe Dolce, Julie Brown, Tracey Ulman. All amazing talents that had us cracking up in the 80's would be SO canceled if they did their biggest hits today. Everyone today knows Lois Griffin from the most politically incorrect sitcom "Family Guy" or her hilarious turn on the "Marvelous Ms. Mazel". I personally will always think she "look-a like-a man." Look it up kids. Ms. Swan. Oh, and if you don't like it - shuddap you face!!

Up until mom died my dad would pick me up whenever I was crying, weather I got hurt on the playground, I wouldn’t clean my room, when I didn’t like dinner, and he would sing “What’s a matta fo you! Why for you so sad, shutapa ya face!” And he’d toss me in the air and then rock me until I stoped screaming or crying about being hurt and he’d sing that until I’d start laughing. In my teen years I watched my dad and my uncle who had 2 kids of his own do this all over again with my baby sister and even our dogs when they would get upset about bed time. One of the dogs is 60lbs and still likes to be picked up and sang and rocked to with my dad singing to her. I understand why he stopped singing this song to me after mom died, I didn’t have anything to be happy about. So when that spark of my middle sister and my baby sister came into our lives we had at least alittle bit of the happiness that we lost when mom died. My step mom is a real peice of work but I’ll put up with her as long as I get to see my family.

Understandable that his actions were despicable and mentally unstable, but ...so are many more performers, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, George Michael..and so on, amazing that some depravities are thrown parades and considered acceptable, others are pure evil?? All are morally despicable!!! Pick and choosing which sins are acceptable is insanity!!
