Thank you so much , that’s a new way to shorten a curtain for me , after over 50 years of sewing things at home ! You are a good teacher too.

Wow thanks so much for this . I’ve always taken them up from the bottom but a someone who makes curtains told me to try this method. Was a bit nervous but your video really helped and was so much quicker and easier to do this way . Liked the extra info about corners too explained very well

I bought a pair of curtains but got the length and width the wrong way around. Is it possible to change the tape without a sewing machine?
@OhMaaaaaan
2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I would say not unless your hand stitching is really fine and sturdy. It would need to be secure enough to carry the weight of the curtains. It's not impossible but not something I would fancy doing. Good luck

Hello, thanks for doing this. At 1 minute in, when you said you were pinning, "a bit further out" from the 17" you originally measured - can you clarify by how much? It looked like half an inch but I might be wrong. I want to adapt your method for my curtains, but my header tape is only about 3" wide and yours looks wider.
@OhMaaaaaan

Hi 👋 it doesn’t matter how far out you place these pins. The intention is to stop the lining fabric from moving at all when you cut. If you don’t pin and the lining fabric moves, you risk the curtain not falling flat as the lining would be either too short or too long. I hope this makes sense.

Hi. How lovely that you are still responding to posts after all this time! My friend told me years ago that it was easier to shorten curtains from the top but I never dared try it. After getting a silly quote recently though for shortening I took the plunge and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. So thank you for your comprehensive instructions. First time in 68 years I've attempted it!

Excellent! I have also used this method on eyelet curtains. I did find that the eyelets I replaced the originals with did not stay together as well as the original ones though. Trial and error I guess!

I learned to leave shoulder seam open, sew the facings to within one inch of shoulder. Then sew shoulder seams. After sewing shoulder seams together, reach in and turn inside out so you can stitch the the rest of the armhole seam.and turn it back to right side.Hope this is understandable.

Hi the best way to do the All-in-one facing is to sew the shoulder and side seams of the garment..then the same with the facing..then place the facing over the garment right sides together..sew the neck and the armholes..once that's completed you'll have to pull the garment right sides out through the shoulder..sounds tricky but once you've done that the neck and armholes will have a clean finish..then give it a good press and you're done ! 😁😁 hope this helps !

Yes - that's the right and easy way to do it - and it shows you that in the book. Much easier than the contortions in this video! :0)
@OhMaaaaaan
9 жыл бұрын
Anne Parker Yes - the 'try this' tip gives you directions to the much easier method of sewing the facing as described above where the neck AND armholes are stitched at step 6 but I wanted to challenge myself to complete the facing in the method suggested on page 83 at step 7. This is stitched slightly differently - whether the final outcome is any different I don't know but I like a challenge!

I meant to say, before you iron the seam flat at the very end, trim your seam allowance and cut notches on the curved edges to make a really tidy, flat edge once pressed.
