It's very good opening by black. Even in the Maroczy Bind, black has plenty of play if he knows his theory. a4 and then a5 is the newest and statistically best way for black to play against it. He attacks the base of the pawn chain instead of the head of it. If white knows what he is doing also a draw is the usual result. It feels good not to get into crazy positions where anything can happen.

Maybe this is fun for those who just want to appreciate, but it is not helpful for players who want to actually improve. The GM identifies themes and ideas but doesn't give the slightest sense of how we could ever make these wonders happen in our own games. I would downvote this clip but I won't out of respect..

Why on Earth does this only have 176 likes, and some Gotham or Botez clowns make a less than mediocre cringy 'chess content' video and they get 200.000 views in a few hours? Please explain that to me.

Even Karpov said in a confirmed interview...He stated that Fischer had a 60 to 40 % advantage to win the match. Karpov would have been destroyed and morally crushed by a 10-3 loss. Fischer would have beaten him in '78 also. No question about that !!.

Karpov beat Spassky 13-1! Fischer beat the weakest chess World champion Boris Spassky only 17 wins 10 losses! Capablanca would beat Spassky easily 8 wins 6 draws zero losses! Carlsen would beat Spassky easily 6 wins 6 draws zero losses! These crazy people claiming that Fischer would beat Carlsen or Karpov bigger than weak Spassky! The highest tournament elo rating score is Fabiano Caruana 8,5!/10 StLouis elo 3100! Karpov 11 /13 Linares 1994 elo score 3040! Alekhine in San Remo 1930 elo score 3040! Fischer his best tournament score only 2990! Arpad Elo tougt wrongly that the chess rating average is 1400 and standard devotion SD=282,8 The correct numbers are the chess rating average is 1650 and SD=256 How stupid Arpad Elo got this wrong SD=282,8 So we get 200x200+200x200=80000 and square root 80000 is 282,8! Really Shocking stupid! We can not trust these 1970-1972 elo ratings! Morphy Tal Alekhine Kasparov had More beautiful games than Fischer!! Carlsen is 100xtimes better than Spassky! Carlsen would beat Fischer 30 times easily because weak Spassky beat Fischer 10 times!!

Had Fischer played Karpov in 1975, under all of his conditions....Fischer would have no doubt, destroyed Karpov by at least 10-3. !!!. Fischer's physical stamina and aggressive style would have been way too much for Karpov to handle !!!

Toward the end, why would the Re1 be counted as an attacking piece but the Qb8 not be counted as a defending piece? It seems like those designations are a little arbitrary and post hoc, but if there is some concrete rule, I'd sure be interested in hearing it!

1:44 That cover was prophetic but not as much as legend has made it out to be. In the 60's Fischer was exclusively a 1. P-K4 player (Fischer didn't use algebraic notation). But he had already varied from it several times. He'd played an English against Polugaevsky, and a Larsen's Opening against, I think Mecking. He even played 1. P-Q4 against Hort in a Blitz game. Early in his career he often planed 1. N-KB3. It was absolutely on the cards that Fischer might vary from 1. P-K4 in the match, which is why the cover existed in the first place.

In a way Fischer was unlucky. When he won the title there hadn't been a really dominant champion since Capablanca. The ones since then had been First Among Equals type champs. By quitting in 1972 Fischer probably thought he could reasonably expect that that would continue for a long time afterwards. But right on his heels came Karpov, and then Kasparov, who exhibited similar levels of dominance, and for a lot longer than Fischer had, and then Carlsen after that. Starting with Fischer Dominant Champions became the norm again, with Fischer the least dominant of them, considering he never won a single game as world champion. Americans had dreamed of having a champion like Karpov, somebody who would enter every tournament in sight and win most of them. While Karpov wasn't exactly Mr. Personality, he wasn't always saying embarrassing things that had to be explained away either.
