Did I see a tear run down Savick's eye? Worst Vulcan ever.

Spock reminds us of Donald Trump, His bravery & how Trump would sacrifice himself to save and protect America the way Spock saved the Enterprise. TRUMP 2024.💪

I have not looked at the scene in 30 years. I saw it in the theater as a kid. Now in viewing it again I did not realize the music to send off was Amazing Grace.

You have it heard that of all the aliens Kirk has met Spock was the most human. But how can that be when nothing that is human is alien to a true human being.

for to me, the best sci fi movie ever. this alwys gets me, the acting is just superior. Once you understand the characters from Bones ,Scotty and especially Kirk and Spock. There is a special bond with all of them. Sulu,Uhura,Chekov. You cant beat this.

People like to knock Shatner's acting but man, with so little he managed to absolutely NAIL this scene. The hollow, broken and almost plaintive "no" he lets out after Spock dies guts me every damn time I watch this.

I still cry to Spocks death to this day. Especially when Kirks voice breaks afterwards and says "His was the most human". Incredible scenes and great film.

Seriously though that was bad ass as fuck that Spock without hesitation went into that room knowing full well he wasn't walking out alive spock had loyalty towards his captain and crew even when his own life was in danger

Honestly, the part where Kirk looks at Spock's empty chair and then rushes to engineering, that really needs to be included here and not edited out. It's at that moment when the tears start for me, and sets up what's about to happen.

In case anyone is wondering what exactly Spock did in the engine room… Scotty had “to take the mains off the line” due to radiation. Spock put “the mains back online” to give the Enterprise enough power to use it’s warp drive. The “mains” Scotty is referring to were the dilithium crystals. These crystals allow a starship’s matter / antimatter fuel to mix and provide main power to the ship. When the radiation levels became too high, the dilithium crystals have to be taken offline as the crystals are not designed to operate in high radiation areas. The crystals are contained with a cylinder in a sealed off room that contains radiation dampeners. These dampeners slowly absorb radiation and reduce it to levels that allow people to access the crystal pedestal. Because the Enterprise was operating on partial main power, the loss of the dilithium crystals meant the ship did not have enough power to use the warp engines. Spock made the decision to sacrifice himself by reaching in to the pedestal and physically put the crystals back online. Sadly, the radiation pouring out of the pedestal infused Spock with a fatal dose. Not even a radiation suit would have prevented this from happening.

It's actually quite illogical to tell a human not to grieve the death of a dear friend. Spock would have known grief is necessary and unavoidable--even healthy--response of a human to such a loss.

I never noticed but when spock bumps into the glass Nimoy is showing us Spock has gone blind with the radiation in the chamber. Nice subtle bit of acting that tells a whole story.

My Daddy raised me on OST, then we watched TNG together. My best friend & probably soul mate (gay guy) and I watched this all the time in college. It became our Christmas Eve movie. We would both cry during these moments. I never thought I would see a day without him, but he died in a car crash in 2010. I understand Kirk's pain even more now. Husband and I still watch each Christmas Eve, and I still cry, but even a little bit more now. ❤
